Morality exists as part of group behavior which has evolved in order to make groups as a whole more likely to survive. Spirituality is part of that.
In order for societies to function, people need a reason to follow the rules even if those are arbitrary. In any organization even like in a company, each person is not going to understand the reason for each decision that went into making the rules they're supposed to follow. Religious dogma exists to give the dumber people the explanation they can understand for why they should follow rules. Spirituality at a higher level allows for the smarter members of society to formulate good rules that will work and dogma that will appeal to the lower members.
Islam isn't old enough to consider it from an evolutionary perspective as broadly as religion in general, but overall it is warlike and so it makes sense that it has harnessed erotic desire into a motivation for war
