There's two things I can see that would absolutely have to happen before globalism is plausible though.
We would have to find alien life of some kind. I don't see the peoples around the world putting their cultural differences aside, and becoming as one human race unless there was something as dramatic as an outside force (aliens) that we could rally against (or possible with if it's multiple alien races we discover).
The other main thing is our economy. One of the reasons the globalist society worked in the Star Trek universe is because they had those magical little replicators. There's no way in hell we are going to have a one world government until we completely change the paradigm of our economic system. I don't see that happening slight of an invention like a replicator that will literally end world hunger, and bring a new era of socialism that might actually work
Even if those two things happened perfectly we would have to worry about the obvious possible corruption in such a large powerful government.

It would never work unless it was a SMALL community because it would take a super hard police state, and that cant work except in small ares, as its too expensive. Also its human nature to form groups and fight with other groups. I mean, family, friends, enemies. It goes even deeper. It boils down to this. The worst person in your life is your worst enemy, and vice versa. Unless everyone treats you exactly the same, a mental tier list will always form. Its a difficult to explain. Then there ate disagreements. Countering these tendancies would be difficult.
