seriously, how much of a moron you have to be to not understand the 2nd amendment?? i know that reading the founding fathers' arguments for it would be difficult for like 95% of the retards in the states but there is literally no excuse to be this much of a retard.. you can at least read the amendment and understand it. it's like a single sentence..

"No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms within his own lands or tenements." Thomas Jefferson

While the Constitution of the United States was not signed by Jefferson, Jefferson is the one who certified the Bill of Rights which would, of course, include the 2nd Amendment.
>>
>>78030456
Let's have the whole thing shall we?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

In context this meant the people who wrote it allowed anything the military could own was available to all citizens.

Obviously tech has changed, citizens should not have access to bombs and such. But, where do we draw the line? Killing potential per minute sounds logical.

So, no automatics. K then. Done, we banned everything that needs banning.

You need to be more precise. It's not simply commenting on "matters" of another nation. She's making a legal argument. As a layperson, she doesn't have the requisite skill or training to do so.

Law is complex - Constitutional law, doubly so. Why do you think lawyers are paid so much? It take a lot of time and training and ability to fully understand all of the contours of the Constitution, particularly in the context of our case law, jurisprudence, and academic analysis. This is no small feat.

Thus, some with no legal training - who writes teen fiction for a living - simply cannot make any meaningful contribution to the discussion of our Constitution.

The following are taken from the Oxford English Dictionary, and bracket in time the writing of the 2nd amendment:

1709: "If a liberal Education has formed in us well-regulated Appetites and worthy Inclinations."

1714: "The practice of all well-regulated courts of justice in the world."

1812: "The equation of time ... is the adjustment of the difference of time as shown by a well-regulated clock and a true sun dial."

1848: "A remissness for which I am sure every well-regulated person will blame the Mayor."

1862: "It appeared to her well-regulated mind, like a clandestine proceeding."

1894: "The newspaper, a never wanting adjunct to every well-regulated American embryo city."

shit like >>78037337 and other liberals keep making it seem like being well armed and having powerful weapons is not well regulated.

IS the context of well regulated more on to regulated as in having generals or someone in power controlling the militia or something completely different.

Sorry if I sound stupid, specially for questioning liberal logic but I'm completely missing the point of this line anti gunners keep memeing about.

Basically the second amendment is a safeguard of the country, for example in case a foreign entity usurps the government and takes over control of the military, so that the people can form their own government and defend themselves.

No "revolutionary" takeovers for the USA.
>>
>>78030456
>1 post by this id
People tend to conveniently forget that the 2nd amendment says the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The proof is in the pudding - US citizens had the same gun of the military at the country's beginnings. By anti-gunner logic, America should have never survived longer than 5 years because of this. Guns are so dangerous, you can't give everyone a gun! But yet here we are.

The entire concept of the second amendment is that the police and military need guns in order to protect us, but what if they start to abuse their power and a rebellion is necessary? The goal was to give the common citizens a means of self-defense against a tyrannical government, so they may be overthrown. This is non-negotiable. This is what the second amendment is. There are no "other interpretations". You can have a different idea of how the laws regarding guns should work, but what the second amendment means is not open to debate.

The level of doublethink people do to try to get around this is just hilariously pathetic. It would be like if I said "2 + 2 = 4" and you were like "WELL YOU DIDN'T SAY THAT 2 + 2 'DIDN'T EQUAL' 5!" You guys aren't "witty". You're not really "deep" and "wise" in some sort of ironic way, like you think you are. Stating the opposite of the truth makes you a liar and an idiot, not some sort of wise guru that we should all listen to. You people all have incredibly low IQs. Those rednecks and hillbillies that you think are so stupid probably have 20-30 more IQ points than you do.

OK guys you heard her.
Time to get "well regulated"

Well regulated or otherwise. The right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

This guarantees a personal right, not the right of a militia.

Correct on both counts.

Federal law establishes two categories of militias: the "organized" militias (the national guard and so forth), and the "unorganized" militia, which is composed of every civilian within a certain age range (something like 21 to 44 I think?). There is established case law that the 2nd amendment applies to both the organized militias and the unorganized militia.

The phrase "well regulated" was an idiom back in the 1700s that we don't use anymore. It meant "in good working order". For example, if a machine was is good working condition, it would have been called a "well regulated machine". It did not mean "fully controlled by government regulation", as many people today believe it does.

Actually the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that the clause was important, they just disagreed on what it meant. Anyway liberal court now (don't try to deny it; it's inevitable). Hope you enjoyed your individual gun rights while they lasted.
