You would think so but the narrative is that he was secretly gay and non religious and his attack was caused by christian homophobia and because of this the USA needs more gun laws
To put it in perspective, this was probably Trump's worst week in the election, but as a result, he's only 6 points behind Clinton. There was a point where he dropped to a whole 10 points below her, but he managed to close the gap and pull ahead, even if for a very short time.
Meanwhile, Clinton's ratings haven't actually risen. Only a small bump despite Bernie losing, Obama endorsing her, and Trump falling.

It's like these fuckers don't remeber when Trump made up like 10+ points in two weeks.
Even still I'm always hesitant about the polls (in non traditional election years especially) because they rely on predicting turnout. The samples are not random, but depend on a calculus based upon the previous elections. If anything they represent a rough trend line. Obama isn't running anymore so it's ultimately dubious to base the turnout models on his coalition of voters.
If the polls were reliable in this cycle, Nate Silver would still have his credibility.
Honestly, the only results that matter are the ones on Election night, polls, like any statistic, can be skewed either way, vote for whoever you're going to vote for, and let the background semantics remain irrelevant. I will say this though, as much as we love his banter, Trump needs to temper his rhetoric and capitalize on situations in a smart way, if anything dismantles his campaign, its himself.
