My whole career I worked with the C7, the C9, the C6. I listened to the old dinosaurs and Cold Warriors talk disdainfully of our rifle, boasting how superior the old FALs were in every way. I didn't put much stock in it, figuring it was just old fossils farting about how things were better "back in my day".
Then came the day I had the opportunity to handle one and I immediately understood the attraction.
Immediately, The weight, the grip felt so RIGHT. The quality of the manufacture felt superior in every way, as well. At 100m, 200m, 400m, 700m... Just consistently hitting the target. No stoppages, no failures on a 40 year old rifle. It roared like a lion and kicked like a mule compared to the puny 5.56x45mm the C7 fired. I hadn't felt as satisfied firing a rifle in the CF as I did that day. I couldn't help but think that one shot shot was all I really needed to knock a motherfucker down and keep him down, and if that didn't work i could just beat him to death with that beautiful wooden buttstock.
