Which one?

>The Democratic proposals:

>Brought by Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., it would give the Justice Department the power to stop anyone from purchasing a gun if that person has been on the federal terrorist watch lists sometime in the past five years. This measure would also make it easier for the government to halt a gun purchase, based on "reasonable belief" as opposed to "probable cause" that the individual will use the firearm to commit terrorism. The White House backs this measure.

>An amendment by Chris Murphy, D-Conn., would close the "gun show loophole" by requiring every gun purchaser to undergo a background check and to expand the background check database. It would also extend background checks to Internet sales.

>The GOP proposals:

>This one from John Cornyn, R-Texas, would require that law enforcement be alerted when anyone on the terrorist watch list attempts to buy a weapon from a licensed dealer. If the buyer has been investigated for terrorism within the past five years, the attorney general could block a sale for up to three days while a court reviews the sale. The government would have to show probable cause that the person is a known or suspected terrorist.

>An amendment by Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, would clarify what it means to be found mentally deficient, and giving people suspected of serious mental illness a process to challenge that determination.

It's politics as usual

These bills crop up after each major shooting, and they fail each time

incremental gun control takes place at the state level, the legislature won't pass anything meaningful, and even if they did, they need another SC vote to make it final
>>
>>77962297
The main concerns about the no-fly list are due process. It's a secret list that the government can arbitrarily add people to, and there's no appeals process or any way to get off the list.

>>
>>77962353
>Innocent until proven guilty
A delay of a gun sale to a suspect isn't claiming they are guilty. If a suspected serial killer is in jail awaiting trial they have yet to be proven guilty, should they be allowed to have guns delivered to their cells?

>>77962387
I know, the "due process" meme, but I somehow doubt there are millions of Americans on the list there wrongly, and again this is at most a 72 hour delay? That's it?

I can't even imagine what crime that would end up preventing, but the fact it would fail anyway is funny.

>>77962494
Well this isn't even preventing the people on those lists from getting a gun.

>This one from John Cornyn, R-Texas, would require that law enforcement be alerted when anyone on the terrorist watch list attempts to buy a weapon from a licensed dealer. >The government would have to show probable cause that the person is a known or suspected terrorist.

Surely you can't think this is THAT unreasonable. Delaying a sale for max of 3 days and the government has to show some proof as to why they are on the list to begin with?

There's absolutely no exact requirements to actually get put on the list. My aunt, a very conservative christian woman, who had never even been out of the state, went to fly to California for business, and she found out she was on the no-fly list.
The issue also lies in the fact that there is no set way to appeal to get off of the list, so if you get randomly put onto it, or falsely put onto it, there's no way you can be taken off. You'll never be able to fly, and if gun control laws pass, purchase a weapon to protect yourself, either.
>>
>>77962686
This is true as well. Gun Control really only happens in a state-by-state progression, but desu pol that's actually fine by me. If I want to live New York City, then I have to play by New York City's rules.

I would be okay with Cornyn's amendment if it included repealing one of the random useless regulations we have to comply with, or otherwise had some compromise to benefit gun owners. I'd be okay with Cornyn's. Onus is on the state to prove reasonable proof of terrorist/flight risk. Grassley's too as it's imperative to have an accountability and chance to challenge issues.

If we were getting something in exchange for it I would be okay with "da evil loophole'. But I don't want them agreeing to that shit without a quid pro-quo - say repealing those import bans or making CCW permits recognized in any state from any state.

Cue the lecturer in chief throwing a bitch fit when these fail because holy shit gun control failing gets him more mad than terrorism, murder, or ISIS.

Still allows constitutional rights to be violated without notifying the US citizen or pressing charges against them.

Due process should begin the moment you go on the list, for it to be constitutional.
>>
>>77962904

Because like most legislation, there's some wording, or obscure addition that allows the government to do something it damn well has no business doing.

Shooting down gun control seems to be the only thing the GOP is good for anymore.
>>
>>77962963
Dems would just call it a "poison pill" amendment and vote against it. Not that that would be terrible.
>>
>>77962893
NYC's rule is that you have to get murdered by Jamal when he breaks in to rape your waifu dake and steal your television though.

We already decided as a country whether the states can use state sovereignty to deny people their human rights. We decided it in 1865, at the end of the Civil War, and the answer was "no." I don't think there's any value in revisiting that question with regard to gun rights.

By that logic, "Trans-Bathrooms" could wind up being a thing, irrespective to local traditions. Be careful what you wish for. This line of thinking only creates chaos.
>>
>>77960536

It'll all fail.

EVERY SINGLE TIME there's a push for gun control, the liberals lose more seats in the house and senate. They do NOT want to give up more power now, so they're not going to push hard on this at all.

It's just smoke and mirrors, same old same old.
>>
>>77962475
Many states (pretty much all of them outside Cali, NY, Conn and NJ) have been loosening gun restrictions for the past 5 years or more. My state, for instance, is working on having constitutional carry.

Get an AR15 lower. I saw some for 50 dollars or so. It's the FFL part of the AR15 which means you have to get it from a gun dealer or whatever.

I have a 226 and a shottie but I will make sure to get a lower before the election. My concern is the guns I'd really like are further away from my being able to afford them right now so I really need Trump in for the next 4 years (or worst case scenario Republicans still have senate or house).

>>77962893

If it stayed like that I wouldn't like it but I'd accept it, but you hear powerhungry cocksuckers like Quomo and his ilk bitching about guns coming from other states (kudos to the communist for laughing at Hillary when she started to talk about Vermont guns coming to NYC) so they want to apply it universally.

>>77963453

The worry is the noise about the horrors of sandy hook and Pulse will change that, or more aptly the amount of monies being flooded by the NY assholes will.

Hell feinstein didn't use the corrupt money she and her husband got from nepotistic dealings to go after other states but NY is sure happy to do so.

I can only hope to god anti-gun politicans lose nasty this election.

By including the government's responsibility to prove probable cause, it seems to me like the logical conclusion would have to be the ability to appeal. If they have to say "This is why", it SEEMS logical that you should be able to respond with "No that's wrong". I understand due process, innocent until proven guilty, etc, but I actually think this could ultimately be a step towards correcting the way no-fly lists function.

If Trump wins the entire panic bubble will pop and Bubbas everywhere will be flooding the market with used ammo and guns.

If we get Hillary, Bubbas will effectively ban guns themselves by drying up the market beyond reasonable access or prices.

Sad thing is the dems actually believe their vote over a round of kneejerk legislation will actually win them brownie points with their constituents. The truth of the matter is by November most Americans will barely remember Orlando. I actually try to keep track of these things due to professional interest, and I had already almost forgotten Chatenooga even after FPcon got bumped up nationwide. If anyone remembers anything they'll remember IS got us good the last two years and we need to do something about it.

Nope, investing in guns is of limited usefulness. It is a controlled/monitored item that may be subject to more restrictions and maybe even confiscation. I could see if you are interested in what you own but anyone looking at it from an investment stand point is retarded. Pic related.

>>77965496
That's already a law, gun grabbers are THAT retarded. Anyone that sells more than just a gun or two (a business, 95%+ of sellers at gun shows) has to do background checks on people before they sell them a gun.
What's to stop people from just walking outside the gun show and selling one gun privately from their car?
>>
>>77965680
>Not likely ever.
Maybe at the federal level but you now it happens at state level.

People freak out and tell them no

>hurr criminals are going to GUN SHOWS and buying assault rifles with no background checks!

>>

IL's been turning around on gun laws recently, most states (barring CT, CA, MA, NY) have been getting more lax in the past 15 years with no signs of stopping.
A few have even thumbed their nose at the feds with nullification laws (which is pretty radical no matter how you look at it)

There's no sign of this trend slowing down or reversing.

1 was for more funding for NICS checks which should mean better/father background checks

2 was a 3 day delay on people on the terrorist watchlist for guns

>on list
>go buy ar15
>3 day delay
>gov has 3 days to prive you are a terrorist
>3 days expires
>go buy guns

Although I am against it, it would have sated libshits and may have negated specific incidents like orlando since the feds would then pick up the terrorist.

Don't get me wrong, I am against background checks in general but in a world where we have them anyways we might as well apply them properly to terrorists without infringing on the rights of the law abiding(too much).
