There's different types of leprosy. Dry leprosy is not contagious, while wet leprosy is.
It's called "Dry" and "wet" because of how the infection spreads. In "Dry leprosy" the cells die, but the infection doesn't spread and the sore/wound dries up. In "wet" leprosy there is excess necrosis and the wound never heals up, spreading further across the body and becoming very contagious.
