The reason America likes its guns so much is because, really, they never really got out of the "frontiersman" mentality. To live on the fringes of society, and protect hearth and home with God-given firepower.

even if the American government did somehow ban guns, say the second amendment got repealed or significantly altered, they aren't going to go door-to-door confiscating them. They'll shut down gun shops, pass a law that says you can't have guns, and slowly collect them as people get caught with them while doing stupid shit. People that already have guns and don't mind being in violation of a law saying that they aren't allowed to have them would quietly keep their guns tucked away until they got arrested or searched, which for most white people is never.
I'm not saying that this would be a good thing, but just that it's dumb when people argue like "COME TAKE MY GUNS I DARE YOU" and "OH YEAH?! YOU'RE GOING TO FIGHT THE GOVERNMENT?! THEY HAVE HELICOPTERS AND NUKES, ASSHOLE!" because that's not how it would go down.
