This hasn't happened in much smaller counties that are islands where smuggling is harder.

The UK and Australia are very string cases that gun control doesn't work.
Their homicide rates haven't changed in trends before and after gun control and bans with an added caveat of a fairly large spike in other violent crimes after gun control.
