This. I dropped out of college and started working minimum wage as a cashier at a gas station. I made $7 an hour to start and I had no problems affording a small apartment, food and a car.
That was literally all I could afford and I would maybe, a few times a year, really splurge and treat myself to a $10 meal in a restaurant. I was never on any kind of welfare or government assistance. I never applied.
Also, having worked at these bottom of the barrel type jobs, I can tell you that anyone, ANYONE showing even the slightest hint of ability is promoted as quickly as possible because it's so hard to find anyone who cares to work. Just listening to this girl talk, I can tell the sort of employee she is. She talks like it's a crime that the manager "doesn't care" if she isn't "making HER hours", as if she's owed a paycheck for showing up. If she showed up and actually worked, she'd be a supervisor in a few months and assistant manager within a year.
