SHOCKING
The Federal government is buying UNPRECEDENTED stockpiles of MILITARY WEAPONRY

http://www.wsj.com/articles/why-does-the-irs-need-guns-1466117176

>During a nine-year period through 2014, we found, 67 agencies unaffiliated with the Department of Defense spent $1.48 billion on guns and ammo. Of that total, $335.1 million was spent by agencies traditionally viewed as regulatory or administrative, such as the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. Mint.

>The number of non-Defense Department federal officers authorized to make arrests and carry firearms (200,000) now exceeds the number of U.S. Marines (182,000). In its escalating arms and ammo stockpiling, this federal arms race is unlike anything in history. Over the last 20 years, the number of these federal officers with arrest-and-firearm authority has nearly tripled to over 200,000 today, from 74,500 in 1996.

>The Internal Revenue Service, which has 2,316 special agents, spent nearly $11 million on guns, ammunition and military-style equipment. That’s nearly $5,000 in gear for each agent.

>The Environmental Protection Agency spent $3.1 million on guns, ammunition and military-style equipment. The EPA has put nearly $800 million since 2005 into its “Criminal Enforcement Division.”

>The Department of Veterans Affairs, which has 3,700 law-enforcement officers guarding and securing VA medical centers, spent $11.66 million. It spent more than $200,000 on night-vision equipment, $2.3 million for body armor, more than $2 million on guns, and $3.6 million for ammunition. The VA employed no officers with firearm authorization as recently as 1995.

If you all remember, a lot of ammo two years ago was in a massive, nationwide shortage, and the price of ammo was sky-high. When you'd ask dealers why the hell it was so expensive, they'd reply that the federal government had been buying in bulk -- logically, they said, "for a bulk discount."

But THIS is where all that ammo, and weaponry, has gone.

While I like to think the military wouldn't turn on the citizenry - at the end of the day they will just be "following" orders.

My thought is while most will disagree with the orders they might still follow through with them.

Money is a powerful motivator.
>>
>>77732753

>Implying the military has any chance against the citizenry

Pointless imo
>>
>>77733029
Actually they taught us in the military that the "just following orders" thing wouldn't absolve you of a crime. Soldiers will get in just as much trouble for following an unlawful order as the person who gave it.

Kind of a fucked up situation for soldiers to be in, but supervisors from tippy top to the very bottom would have to be on board with said unlawful order.
>>
They know the civil war draws nearer and that their retribution will soon be at hand.
>>
>>77733029

The military would fracture. An overwhelming majority of the military would not be okay fighting and killing American citizens. Even if one branch decided to fully side with government, other branches would turn against it and there would be units of dissent within that branch as well. American soldiers have families and civilian lives as well. They aren't going to kill their families.
>>
The Marxists in DC do not expect the military to side with them, so they're arming the federal bureaucracy instead.
They know the shit is going to hit the fan soon, by design.
>>

The Marines are probably the only branch that would defect. That's why OP's article noted specifically that they are now in higher numbers than the Marines.

The Army has been training for Martial Law and they have a bootlicker general who wants assault weapons ban.

really what it comes from is that government departments just grow and grow and get more responsibilities and nobody ever looks at it and says that there are redundancies across agencies. so when the EPA is supposed confiscate back water land from hicks they bring their own guys with guns rather than coordinating with the state police because somebody in charge of the EPA wants to do their own shit

Unless they replace the entire military and government with foreigners and Communists I doubt they would start a civil war. The people actually doing the fighting would rather not shoot the people they tend to like. Also liberals hand holding wouldn't allow for total war, exception being the Militia standoff where they became more totalitarian than they already are.

Too bad I deleted a screencap of a well argumentated post from a guy who pretented to work at the pentagon in a department about the issue.

He basically said, based on projections, that between 1/3 and 1/2 of the troops would desert during the first 3 months if a civil war happened and a substantial part of the remaining ones would lead sabotage actions and passive insubordination.
The current logistics would be almost impossible to sustain, especially since the US power grid is very vulnerable.

no, I'll tell you why it collapse.

The invasion and agression of communist agression on Afghanistan had prompted a massive mujahideen buildup and retaliation forces.

the crooked red generals in moscow saw this, shiat themselves and ran back to the ural villages where they came from.

If we get in a war with Russia then the military would gladly follow orders to keep the US from being overwhelmed on too many fronts and falling apart.

If the grid goes down a revolution turns into backstabbing for food. Then we're fucked.
>>
>>77737422
>the US power grid is very vulnerable
Basically every aspect of our domestic infrastructure is hilariously vulnerable, and a small group of guerillas could shut down basically the entire country in the event of civil war, even if they only acted as lone wolves.

Cutting off supply lines alone would be incredibly easy, as would taking out bridges and power grids.

>>77737498
The resistance fighters were also backed by us, more likely then not, and I doubt the USSR wanted to get involved in a prolonged proxy guerilla war.

No, they would desert and go in to the woods. Just like everyone else that has figured out that a war between Russia and the US would go nuclear.
>>
>>77737745
>a small group of guerillas could shut down basically the entire country in the event of civil war, even if they only acted as lone wolves

This, plus the fact that a good portion of MIC logistics are handled by civs and private sector companies. The government could be dismantled without a shot being fired.

Using bombardment against your own people would make the conflict an instant loss for the government.
I don't even speak about nukes and other massive destruction weapons.

Anyway when people think about civil war they still think of the good old territory warfare but the truth is that with the hyper urban society that we have it will probably looks a lot like guerrilla warfare.

By the way a very interisting aspect of civil war which is almost NEVER adressed is cyberwarfare.
Disrupting propagandas, hacking satelittes, intercepting intel, disabling vehicles etc...
A lot of things asking little hardware and manpower with skills that a lot of people could be able to developp in USA.
