I graduated at 17, and I had a full ride because both black and genuinely qualified for their indiscriminate ACT scholarship. Apparently there was a loan taken out automatically to cover books or something (what I heard pertaining to the matter), but since I was living on campus, the bill got mailed to my home address. They never informed me of it, and got tired of paying on it after a while. So, they stopped paying it, but never told me. I don't operate on credit personally because I make jack shit working at a fast food restaurant, so I never bothered look until I got bored and saw a CreditKarma commercial.
Credit score was a 436. Asked them about it, they said they had no idea. Disputed the loan, dispute got rejected. Asked again. Oh, now they maaaaybe knew what was up.
Lost my scholarship due to having a 2.9 out of 3.0 (Literally 1.2 points short in my Physics course). I needed to take out a loan to cover one semester, and the dean of students said he'd pull some strings to get it reinstated. I went to get a loan, but my parents told me they'd cover it (this was before I knew about my credit score). Cool enough, that's a load off my shoulders.
Go that semester, get GPA back up, but find out when registering for the next semester that they never paid. I can't afford it working part time (full time wasn't available) at a minimum wage joint, but they said they'd pay it off themselves. Took two years plus getting a grandparent to cover over half the cost anyway. I still intend to pay them back after I graduate.
Now despite being able to register again, it's too late to get nearly the same amount of financial aid for that school. Transferred to a school back in-state now that out of state tuition isn't waived. Majoring in mathematics, starting this fall. Living out of the car since room and board is more than I'd like to take out a loan for, and I want as little debt as possible.
Oh, and they logged into my school-issued email and impersonated me.
