If you put them on the bottom then you cant put the sub down on the sea floor.

the way those barnacles are growing on that sub i can only think that it has been sitting in a harbor for a long time.
that or patrolling the same shallow waters for years with a lot of surfacing

They are storage for sonar pods, they are lead out on a cable, clear the baffles and let the sub listen for ships/boats/subs behind it.

This is a Victor-class Soviet-era nuclear submarine on a dock ship, being hauled to Vladivostok for dismantling in 2009.

Of course. Our Hornets are old, but we are continuing using them until 2025. Then, we will replace them with 72 F-35A or Super Hornets. We always prefer to have two different models of fighters (F-5 and Mirage III, F-4 and Mirage F1, F/A-18 and Eurofighter).

It wouldn't have nearly the capablities of the F-35 though. The F-35 has superior stealth, electronics, range, internal payload and operating costs.

The radar and 360 degree DAS (a god tier version of IRST) alone mean F-35 is ready for the future.

And despite every test pilot from every participating country saying the F-35 is as or more manueverable than F-16s and F-18s, armchair bloggers claimed it wasn't possible.

But look at this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jez31XaWn6I

And thats with a 7g limiter. the next software update will take it up to 9gs.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Spain didn't purchase it.

people said that about the F-16, F-16, F-15 and F-18. Those aircraft were rushed into service because of the cold war and all had high profile problems but they were fixed. Every advanced aircraft has problems. Theres not a huge immediate need for the F-35 so they are testing every single scenario and getting everything up to 100% in testing and because of the internet age its problems are made mainstream- but its no more so than any other advanced aircraft. i remember just 3 years ago people saying the F-35 would never be able to land on a carrier because of the geometry and how far back its landing gear was set... yet they fixed that, just like every other "problem" the F-35 has.

The T-45 (britains new world class AA destroyer) is having problems operating in the warm waters of the persian gulf- suffering power loss because of heat. Its getting big press--- but it will be fixed. Those things happen when new technology is introduced. There will always be naysays- theres only more now because of the internet and "everyone is an expert" mindset.

Well, our first idea was to order 48 F-35A to the Air Force and 24 F-35B to the Navy, but they are too expensive and we're still paying our Eurofighter Typhoon. Probably if we can build part of the F-35 in Spain, we could be interested (we need the jobs).
