I was a ranger for 5 years. And only the dumbest newfags taped mags like that. You need to drill how to pull mags from pouches fast. Mags taped like that don't fit right in pouches and you have to think about which drill to do. Flip the mag or go down your belly to the next mag.
I used to put electrical tape around the bottom of my mags to give me a better grip. And you never know when you might need some extra tape in the shit. But only cod playing newfags ever used to tape double mags.

This works great and because it has the height difference in the mags it doesn't block your ejection port.

The vasic thing i knew and practiced/taught was that when you needed a new mag you used trigger finger to drop mag while bringing your support hand to belly to search for next mag. You slam new mag in while bringing up rifle, slap the mag release, and keep firing.
