I just find it odd and there was no real reporting about it. The man was known to police as being a massive complainer, for years. He had known these neighbors for a while. It was not the first incident with neighbors either.

It is right to uphold our moral obligations and wrong not to. If we have an obligation not to kill then we must not kill. If we have an obligation to kill, then we must kill. The only question is what our obligations are. Do we have an obligation not to kill? Well, I see no logical proof for one. How does the mere existence of a human being confer any kind of obligation on me to do anything - or not do anything - for that person? Why do I owe someone consideration just because they are alive?
Now, when we enter into a state, things change. This alters our obligations. However, if we act against the state the obligations that the state (and its citizens) have towards us wither. Once removed from the state we revert back to being a mere human, deserving no special consideration, that can be disposed of at the leisure of the state.
