The "why do you need guns"
Most of us do not need them. However there are certain areas, that are remote as fuck, that do. Also they are fun to shoot I will admit.
Most of the issues stem from:
1. We have a fuckton of guns, way more than we need. Most gun owners will tell you that there are too many and that is an issue. (A ban would not curb things much.)
2. Most of the crime is done by pistols, personally I prefer my shotgun for home defense, so if we lost pistols big whoop. Get rid of them imo, they suck anyway.
3. Safety/liscense program that screens out morons. If the government has legit reasons to not trust you, you do not get a gun. If you have an issue with that take it to court.
4. Tone down police forces to deescalate urban crime. The police are freaking over doing it and it causes criminals to escalate as well.
5. Suicide by gun is also a massive problem. Reducing this would help.

Guns grant extreme power to the individual who wields them, and centralizing gun ownership to an institution such as a government is only guaranteed to cause chaos in the future because it works under two assumptions. One: The government will operate without flaw and will not abuse the people in any way, shape or form, and Two: With anything else that is 'banned' or 'confiscated', you're implying you haven't created a black market in which criminals have (generally) easy access to said banned items. By banning or confiscating guns in the US, you've taken away the rights of the many to defend themselves and have allocated these guns to an institution which is not devoid of self interest and will only become more powerful as time goes on. You've also done a damned fine job of making sure that civilian weaponry stays almost exclusively in the hands of people who have no regard for the law.

I take it that history isn't your strongest suit. Our ancestors weren't very stupid, they knew that weaponry evolves over time, the muskets made no difference.
