Yes, the party she's running for is the so called Christian Democratic Union. It's the most "right wing" accepted party. There used to be a slogan that "no party on further right" than it is allowed to exist. It actually used to be fairly conservative for the longes time, altough similar to Republicans it ventures into Neo-Cons at times.

It's the United States of America.
After WWII, the USA wanted to prevent the isolation of Germany à la post-WWI which basically created the circumstances for Nazi Germany. So, the USA forced Britain and France to play nice with West Germany; then the USA orchestrated an interconnected economic system which set the stage for the political cooperation of the modern-day European Union. The USA wanted centralized European political power to make Europe in general easier to work with.
The problem is the UK, France, and Germany were the only countries to build self-sustaining economies. Spain, Greece, Italy, and other freeloaders kept running things the way they did before WWII - i.e. like lazy cunts. The EU isn't shilling to keep the Brits in just because the bureaucrats in Brussels want to maintain control; the bureaucrats want to keep Britain in because the EU is falling apart and the chance that they lose their jobs increases dramatically if their lose British cooperation.
Thank God the American media is too busy complaining about Donald Trump to bitch about the Brexit.
