This is what Trump means when he says we are being ripped off by other countries. With the death of American industry, millions of working-class and less educated people have been laid off of work. Trade deals like the TPP and NAFTA make this problem way worse.
In this situation, where millions of former industrial workers are struggling to find employment, the last thing we need is huge numbers of low-skilled immigrants adding competition to the work force. Make no mistake: big business loves immigration because it keeps wages low. Bernie used to oppose large-scale immigration before he started running for president for exactly this reason.

A single argument is no country can be the hospital or school or perfect police for the entire world. Trying to be any of those things would bankrupt any nation. Liberals and neoconservatives want to get into lots of wars to look good and support an ideology and force democracy on people and/or help special interests. Trump is saying he only wants to fight wars for safety and to gain a profit for the country. He wants to get reimbursed for any policing he does. Trump wants to do things that are self sustainable like a business would do. Another reason for Trump is that Hillary is only copying what Bernie is saying to win his voters. Trump is likely to leave LGBT issues/social issues up the courts to decide which he's being honest about instead of pretending to be a hardcore progressive like Hillary and Obama who flip flopped on basic liberal issues like gay marriage. He's at least a safe choice if social justice stuff appeals to you because he's unlikely to take back what you already have.
Another reason is quality immigration. Trump is likely to make it much easier for people from Europe who already are educated and speak English to immigrate when he deals with border issues and illegals. There are millions of poor hard working people in Europe that lived under communism and dictatorships until only recently and see America as an ally that would add much more to America's economy, healthcare system and technological innovation while adapting much easier. Why not get medical professionals and business men from Europe as well as laborers who are tired of earning little under EU rules to come to America when they already speak English and admire the country instead of feeling entitled?
