Can I just remind everyone that the reason this isn't a slam dunk yet despite a year and change since discovery is that it produces so little thrust it's within the margin of error in measuring it.

in science fiction novels i've read, sometimes they put a huge cone of ice onto the front of the ship. this servers two purposes:
1. to keep the ship cool from all the friction that happens at high relativistic speeds
2. to gather/catch any debris that might be in the way of the ship.
Alastair Reynolds books. ships are called lighthuggers but they use fusion drives. (ships are miles long and the ice cone in the front is basically a giant manmade iceberg)

I know where you're getting at but space is not a perfect vacuum. There's still quantum fluctuations, photons, and minute quantities of gas. Worst case scenario (if the thing even works) you'd see less efficiency in space.
