What does /pol/ think about the wage gap with women? The U.S. Bureau of Statistics seems to indicate that there exists such a gap. Does /pol/ agree?

Economist here.

It is actually about a 7 to 9 cent difference. This is due to many variables such as IQ, education choice, career preference, maternity leave, risk in the work place.

Too fucking tired to debunk this every fucking time it appears here.

Download the dataset yourself, run some regressions in Stata or another normie statistical software and see for yourself. When will this meme die?

For one particular job you have waay more men than women, as such, statistically speaking, it's way more likely that more of these men will end up getting paid more for the same job than the rest.

Those wage gap statistics left out alot of variables.
>>
People should absolutely be paid the same for doing the same work, to the same standard, regardless of gender.

However women make shitty choices which effects the total wage gap. Here in the UK the gender balance of graduates is slightly in favour if women, yet only 14% of STEM undergraduates are women*.

Quotas won't close the wage gap, women just need to make the same career choices as men.

The wage gap is a myth, when controlling for all variables there is no distinguishable difference in male vs female pay, it's within a margin of error, about 3%
>>
>>77452389

I think we should actually just fucking do this. Give every woman a pay rise of 13% regardless of job. Paying them more than men is clearly the only thing that will suffice.

It's easy to sit there and say "Women make less because they become teachers and men become engineers". Of course they do, it's in their nature, but for a few exceptions that only prove the rule. But WHY are teachers paid less than engineers?

Why does the market consider psychologists and teachers and social workers less important than metallurgy and mining and chemicals? Why does it consider bridges and planes and oil more important than people?

It's because social professions don't create money as quickly. You can dig a ton of platinum out of the earth and sell it for a quick buck, but helping people, teaching them and guiding them takes years to pay off. In a market motivated by greed, people want checks in their banks NOW, not healthy and motivated citizens that may or may not get off welfare and contribute to a more efficient and less corrupt economy 5 or 10 years down the line.

Oh, sure, you may think "Teachers don't do anything. I remember when I was in school, they were just handing out worthless cookie-cutter assignments and standardized tests, and persecuting free-thinkers. Why should they get a raise?", but the reality of it is that if we did pay them more, the field would become more attractive to motivated and passionate people who could be held to higher standards. The "great" teachers who love their subjects and help students love it too could become the norm, instead of extraordinary.

There is no wage gap. America is the sum of its people, and there's a culture gap between the ones who want to make America great by making its people great, and the ones who are only here to take the people for a ride and make a tidy sum doing it. You can easily tell who each are, when the latter move their industries overseas to China and India.
>>
>>77454617

No it's only racism when white people have more.

The Asians just overcame racist white folks holding them down and proved they're better workers than them
>>
>>77456131
Floating prices including floating prices on various types of labor is what prevents shortages and surpluses which is the foundation of efficiency upon which which all Western prosperity is based. How would you change the value of social professions without disrupting floating prices?
>>
>>77456297
How did they overcome where others failed? What did they do differently compared to other demographics?
>>
>>77456131
If they were worth more they would be paid more. A person teaching kids to read isn't as valuable is a person digging a ton of platinum out of the ground. No matter how much you might FEEL they should be paid, they are paid what they are worth. Should we be facing near extinction and have only 10 kids to further the human race, the teacher will definitely be paid well because what they do is worth more than some shitty platinum.

Don't assign value through your feelings to the nature of a job. Pay for teachers is low because the society doesn't need them as much as the doctor.
>>
>>77456465
and this too. It's nice and dandy to say they should be paid more because you feel it's right but as your wage increase ripples through the country I don't think you are ready for the effects it will have
>>
>>77456561

They have pale skin so white folks don't discriminate against them.

Us people of color with black and brown skin are held back by systemic racism and white supremacy. If we weren't we'd be earning more than whites just like Asians do.
>>
>>77456688
Japanese people were put in camps and they lost all their real estate while the Vietnamese came here on boats with nothing and they had successful businesses within two generations.
>>
>>77456131
It's simply economics. People are paid proportionally to the value they represent to the business and that depends on several factors, how much revenue the business can create and how many other people are able and willing to do the same job.

Men tend to go into jobs which women are unwilling to do, deal with trash and sewage, deal with dangerous conditions and health risk that earns them more money because less people want to deal with those conditions. Men also enter jobs which require more education in harder subjects which again means that less people are capable of doing the job and you can negotiate for higher wages.

It's just how the free market works, talking about greed is stupid because everyone is greedy, no one takes less money than what they're offered to do a job.

The more you control for, the smaller the effect. I'm inclined to believe that the influence of inexplicable sexism is just about nil.

Of course, explicable sexism probably causes quite a lot of the effect. Women work shorter hours on average, maternity leave is a huge pain in the arse for every company, and in general our stereotypes are probably pretty accurate.

It's time that stay at home mothers got paid for what they do, they provide a good home for their family, food, washed and clean clothes. These all lead to productive workers who can go to work and do the best they can. That's why we need to begin paying mothers who help our workers because they're the real workers of this nation. I propose a minimum wage rate of $15 an hour and capped at a full time work week, with overtime added if they have children.

Paid for by the government :^)

In fact school teachers in USA/EU become too much money for incredibly easy jobs, which even retards can do. Besides, they work less than 20 hours a week and have 3 months paid holydays. I think it's totally fucked up, school teachers should get 5000$/year at most.
>>

>black youth unemployment practically lower than white youth unemployment in America
>introduce minimum wage
>black youth unemployment skyrockets

People are discriminatory. If I'm white and racist, I'll hire white workers. I'm also a businessman though and I want to be productive, meaning if I can get a black worker to do the same job but is willing to work for less id be hurting myself if I didn't hire him. As the discriminator I'm the only one who gets hurt when I discriminate. When my competitor hires nothing but blacks and can build my product for half the price due to his wage savings I either lose or I put away my discriminatory feelings.

It's the beauty of the free market. When you discriminate you hurt only yourself. When you take away the bargaining power of minorities and women you take away all they've got, I now have to pay everyone the same rate as the race that I prefer, what incentive do I have to hire anyone else?

It's as if the system fixes itself but we keep trying to stop it
>>
>>77451974
It's not what they make it sound like. There is nothing "unfair" about the wage gap, because compensation is adjusted to work performance.

Truth. If you discriminate based on arbitrary traits then you are automatically hurting yourself and your business by being less competitive on the marketplace. What hurts radfems and commies most is the fact that if you discriminate based on actual things that have a negative effect on your business (like maternity leave) then you're going against their narrative that "we're all equal guize".

>b-but discriminating me based on my biological imperative is sexist

Not when that biological imperative is costing me fucking money and I get nothing in return except for increased pressure on the rest of my workers to finish the job YOU should be doing while the reward for that work goes in your pocket.

>Why does it consider bridges and planes and oil more important than people?

it doesn't do that at all. The infrastructure and energy, food production are all tools to ensure that people are well off.
psychology and things like that just try to console people so they're a bit more comfortable. these are not seen as necessity so they get less funding

education is valuable, but not if it's inefficient and impractical. In theory, schools and industry should work together instead of each doing their own thing.

The people are being fucked in the ass by a thieving government that has been in power for the last 8 years. They somehow still manage to stay in power (even though literal evidence surfaced that they're thieving and plotting murders) because of retarded nationalists that believe the government is acting in their interests. It's kind of a clusterfuck because we're a post commie shithole, and I would have liked to say that the market is free (due to flat tax and whatnot) if it weren't for the rampant corruption and government racketeering.

Oh? What you say, there's a gender pay gap? It's obviously because of sexism. I mean, it has nothing to do with the fact that women tend to choose easier jobs. I mean, working in a convenience store is probably very hard. I wouldn't know, I don't have the experience of working behind a desk or counter; in fact, I quit school to work in the lobster-fishing industry. I guess you could say I'm very lazy, because I'm a quitter, unlike those hard working females who obviously deserve more than 77 cents to my dollar.
>>
>>77459305
>maternity leave

I'll never understand it. I'm to hire a person who will disappear after I train them for the last 6 months. I'll have to pay for this person the whole year that they take off, in the mean time hire a new person to fill that role they were meant to be doing, train them then dispose of them when the new mother returns and now requires extra days off and leaves early.

What the fuck. How on earth is it sexist to not want to hire such a liability to your business? It's bleeding money left right and center. A worker should prove themselves valuable enough that the employer can guarantee them a job upon their return rather than forcing it. reminds me of a teacher I had in school. Of the 6yrs I was there she was probably present for 2 and undoubtedly getting something all the while the school is hiring replacements every time she got cream pied.

Goddamn. Men and women can be equal if you ignore biological differences. A man isn't going to disappear for a year while they pop out a kid and raise it and will therefore make more sense to hire 25yr old John over 25yr old Jane. How do you prevent such a bias is what I'd like to know.

Honestly, it's really fucking frustrating. On the one hand you have a repressive government that is currently in power, and it is corrupt as fuck. People support it either because they're completely delusional and buy into the "we're patriots for macedonia" crap, or they're employed in the government sector and are afraid to lose their jobs and security. Basically a slave mentality that says "well it could be worse".

On the other hand you have the major opposition which is left-leaning and their political party is filled with incompetent politicians whose party member was caught stealing a decade ago, and people aren't prepared to trust them yet. But some align with them because they're the only viable opposition that goes against the current government.

Honestly I don't think it will come to bloodshed and I doubt there's going to be a major change any time soon. Mainly due to the fact that a majority of the youth is packing their shit and leaving abroad which will only leave an old and declining population that's uninspired to make changes.
>>
>>77460327
That's why you try to keep them to the low impact jobs like secretaries, assistants, and managers with no real responsibility. Then when you need more women because of affirmative action you try to get the 40+ ones who probably won't be having babies at that age and will lose that ability soonish. But that's probably still age discrimination so you can't do that :^)
>>
>>77451974

They interpreted a study saying "women are paid less than men in the same field" into "women are paid less than men for the same job". Which could be totally false and should be investigating if they want to claim it is.

The former may be true, but it could be totally justified since "same field" was as precise as "Judiciary system" or "Sells and marketing".
Your not paid the same when you're a secretary, the manager of a sells man team or the CEO for the company. You don't even have to rely on women performing worse to explain that.
Then they could have only address the issue that women don't have access to high paying jobs, but no they had to claim women are exploited by the Patriarchy in addition of being oppressed, and went full retarded Marxism.

This was a nice read, nice to learn something new

But isn't the value of education assigned by the person? I value it much so that my kids go to an expensive school while an acquaintence doesn't care much for it and is content to send his kids to a shitty public school.

Where does the role of the politician come into this when assigning value and where does your own personal value end? Asian parents value it over anything else to the point where they beat it into their kids while no other culture goes this hard. Where do you say these peoples value comes from for education? They're willing to pay small fortunes to tutors and teachers to ensure the best of marks

>If they were worth more they would be paid more. A person teaching kids to read isn't as valuable is a person digging a ton of platinum out of the ground.

This is interesting. A society do value a miner more than a teacher, but both of these has different impact on peoples. I learned to read/calculate, and what would happen to me if I didn't?
Teachers creates oppurtinies for kids, which will grows, read/calculate, and create things/people for society, and may create higher income for themselves.
What would happen to me if I had bad teachers?

Soicety has a higher reward for peoples working with things instead of peoples working or helping peoples. Look at CEO's they're ridiculous paid, but when it's school, they're paid as low as possible.

Pleae note that I haven't forgotten whereas a miner is in a unhealty enviroment than a teacher, but the impact of a good/bad teacher are much larger than a good/bad miner.

COMSAD study by the Department of Labor showed conclusively that 96% or more of the supposed wage gap can be explained by differences in occupational choices, not by discrimination.

If women choose jobs that pay less than men, that is not an issue for public concern.

>The U.S. Bureau of Statistics seems to indicate that there exists such a gap.

Of course it exists. It exists because women are inferior.

If you hadn't learned to read or write and a generation of kids like you were being made I imagine the demand for teachers would sky rocket and their wages increase.

I agree that the value of a good teacher is often more than their shit salary but it is what they are determined to be worth, what they can do can be done by many others for the same price. You will never have teachers paid well until the art of teaching becomes forgotten.

Plus if you want teachers who go above and beyond, teach their students more than the syllabus look into private schooling. The teachers are paid very well because of what they do. What they do is because what is expected of them because they are paid well

If there was a wage gap, why arent companies only hiring women?
Since they hire cheap labour from poorer countries over a native worker.

Then employers will try to avoid hiring women which means they will have to compete for jobs and might actually start working harder.

Atoms are invisible and my body is made of atoms so my body is invisible.
Canada is very spacious and Toronto is in Canada so Toronto is very spacious.
Americans eat ten times as much pizza every year as Canadians. My friend is American so he eats 10 times as much pizza as I do.
Women, collectively, make less than men do collectively, so a woman earns less than a man does.
