Here's a question for you all
Does the bible actually prohibit swearing - as in, cusses, expletives, 'bad words' - that type of swearing?
Here's my thought process - the entire concept of swearing is context sensitive and relative to a given secular culture. There's no biblical list of "swear words" and the bible wasn't written in english to begin with - so there is no explicit statement that certain words like the F-bomb shouldn't be uttered.
The bible says not to swear an oath because your word should stand on its own
It also says not to offend people, however there are contexts and cultures (such as 4chan) where using a swear word does not offend anybody
Paul does mention not letting any "filthy language" come from your mouth, but there is no real explanation for what that means - if I remember correctly he was speaking within the context of the tongue being used to tear people down and not lift people up, so again that's not inherently referring to swears

Again, the definitions of obscene, flippant and vulgar are context sensitive. I could argue that christian discussion is offensive in front of someone from another contrasting religion, and discussion regarding homosexuality being a sin that requires repentance is offensive to many people in our own culture these days. Does that mean we aren't allowed to even talk about those things, or just that we need to use common sense to know when it is appropriate to say certain things without offending someone?

In the church I spent the most time in as a child, the leaders made it sound like you could die and go to hell for failing to repent on any random occasion if you happened to die. I know the gate of salvation is narrow, but those are some high stakes. My current belief is that God will be forgiving if you're actively working to follow his instructions and truly believe in him.
On a somewhat related note, what about people who never heard about Jesus in their life? How does God handle that situation. I believe it's written somewhere that God has written a code in our hearts so that we inherently know the basics of right and wrong. Which hints at the possibility of getting to heaven through nontraditional means. But doesn't that raise the issue of it being better to have never heard of Jesus and having the chance to reject him?

We are not yet in Heaven but are travelling to reach it. Instead of salvation semantics that do not build endurance, people whould be taught that Christ is the redeemer and only way. Keep your gaze in Him and you will reach the goal. Even if you stumble on the road, keep your gaze on Him and get up to continue the way.
Having great emphasis on once saved, always saved doctrine can at worst cases drive people away from Christ. When people stumble on the road, the doctrine can drive them to desperation instead of repentance.

My understanding about the destruction of Sodom/Gomorrah was that we're supposed to get the impression that the cities were completely decadent. The cities had reached the point of no return and it was better to wipe them out instead of allowing the degeneracy to continue unabated. Now as for Egypt, God wanted to use the country as an example to the world in order to establish himself. Remember, in the books that follow Exodus other nations and Israel itself makes references to God's judgement upon Egypt. It was a major event as Egypt was likely a "superpower" at the time. Each plague was an attack on one of the Egyptian gods and ultimately the nation's authority.

The immaculate conception and ultimately sinless life of Mary does not make either a stronger or weaker case for what you're proposing, we know God COULD do it, we know he has done it for one person on Earth at least, but he obviously doesn't want to do it for everyone for whatever reason. It's simply a mystery, like many other things in the faith, and there's nothing wrong with mystery, you could spend all the time in the world wondering but it would be something akin to an ant wondering about astronomy, it's surely incomprehensibly complex.
