Update on the Orlando gator story

>The body of a 2-year-old boy who was grabbed Tuesday night by an alligator near a Walt Disney World resort hotel has been recovered, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said Wednesday.

>He has been identified as Lane Graves of Elkhorn, Nebraska.

>The sheriff says the boy's body was found intact and that he likely died of drowning. There will be a full autopsy.

>>77417753
Why didn't anyone help?
No one dived in after him?
I guess they were right when they said The West lacks courage.
>>
>>77417753
Did you hear that they killed discovered alligators around the area? Kinda wrong to blame the whole species for the action of one gator.

the dad got busted up trying to free the kid. Gators are fast in the water and that jaw is impossible to open once its locked down. Kid was in the water, gets chomped and pulled, dad jumps in to try and pull kid free, gator goes deeper and gets away drowning the kid in the process. If it grabbed something bigger that could have fought back while the dad was fighting it may have let go, but tiny kids and pets are always fucked in these cases.

I'm calling this right now. There was no gator.

Somehow the kid drowned, and the dad made up the gator story. Possibly murder.

That's why they're doing an autopsy. The body is intact. If you read between the lines, they noticed that the body hadn't been chewed on by a gator. They're suspicious now.

Tbqh, I don't give a shit about the kid; what saddens me is that they've already euthanized five alligators in that area, meaning at least four innocent alligators were killed. The kid had terrible parents: you should never just let your id walk up to the side of a lake in Florida, b/c chances are there is an alligator waiting for easy meat.I moved out of Florida last week, and i can tell you that you have to be a total dumb-ass to just walk into their terri'try without being cautious. The poor reptiles never knew it wasn't okay to eat humans, they just snap at whatever comes within range.

Let me see if I understand your theory right.

A couple and their two kids, from Elkhorn, Nebraska, save up money to go to Orlando, FL. Take all the time and effort to book rooms and buy tickets.

They attend an outside movie night with their two kids, and the dad somehow put tooth puncture wounds on the child then drowned him and pretended it was a gator.

Do I have your version right?

I don't want to sound unsympathetic here, but I can't get past this:

Everyone is bitching about the lack of signage warning of alligators, but it COMMON FUCKING SENSE. I have lived my whole life in New England and have never been to Florida, but even I know that when there you have to PRESUME that any body of fresh water may have gators in it.

And to go by the people I saw interviewed, it was fairly common knowledge that there WERE gators. Many of the same people complaining about lack of signs were complaining about people feeding the gators. Well if you've seen people feeding them, then you shouldn't need a sign. And if you see someone wading with their kid in water you know has gators in it, don't you warn them?

And why were they wading in water that had "no swimming" signs, anyway? Are people that fucking literally-minded that they don't realize that wading is probably intended as falling within the scope? I see a "no swimming" sing, and assume it means "stay the fuck out of the water," probably because it's dangerous (around here, I'd assume it was contaminated).

I'm probably the last person wanting to defend Disney on anything, but I'm having a hard time seeing how they did anything wrong here.
>>
>>77424533
Because they like it, jesus shit are you dumb
>>
>>77418517
See, the problem is the dad forgot his stupid little disney bracelet so he couldn't just swipe it on the gator to release the kid. That's why you've always got to keep those on when you're in Disney.

That's SOP for alligators, though.

They grab their prey, wear it out, then wedge it under a submerged branch or the like to let it tenderize (i.e. decompose) a bit, only coming back to eat it later. They don't generally eat fresh meat.

Nice try Cuckstralia, you cannot carry a knife (regulated weapon) unless you have a reasonable cause. Reasonable cause is:

- lawful pursuit of the person's occupation
- preparation or consumption of food or drink
- participation in a lawful entertainment, recreation or sport
or during travel to or from or incidental to these activities.

So unless you are Crocodile Dundee, and you aren't, or a professional chef, then you better leave your fancy knife on the wall.

Mean while your kid is Crocodile shit.

Public Service Announcement: if you're in Florida and the water is murky there are gators in it. No amount of wildlife management will make this not true. One of the Orlando area's nicknames is "the land of 1000 lakes" (if you look at it on google map you'll see why). Which might as well be "the land of 1,000,000 gators." Though actual alligator attack incidents are low (since they are generally fearful of people and noise), in tourist areas where idiots feed them it's quite unsafe to wade in shallow water.

Bayou fag here... You're sort of right but that only really pertains to them on land. They're burst speed is insane (think of a snake striking)

In water though if a alligators pissed at you, there's nothing you can do on your own. They're straight line fast but they're still agile enough to catch you (we're not made for water). And honestly there is no magic weak spot for a gator.

The reason you don't hear about attacks often is because gators are lazy fucks who don't need to eat often and aren't super territorial

Disney used to allow swimming in the Lagoon until 1998 but only stopped allowing people to swim in the Lagoon not because of alligators but because of Rental Boats.

However, water skiing and fishing in Seven Seas Lagoon is still allowed.

So Disney is still in deep shit because they allow people to fish and water ski in alligator infested waters.

Also, visitors have mentioned that Disney does not ban children making sand castles near the Lagoon which is incredibly retarded of Disney since their signs only mention No Swimming and nothing about Alligators and Banning People from making sand castles near the Lagoon where alligators can sneak close by is common sense but again no signs banning children making sandcastles near this alligator infested lagoon or the reason why there is no swimming which is not present on their warning signs.

The official reason for no swimming is actually like I said, rental boat activity in the lagoon, not because of alligators.

So Disney is pretty much fucked because they presented an idea that the Lagoon was safe for people.

1) Disney created fake beaches around the lagoon and allowed kids to build sandcastles near the lagoon and even wade in them.

Banning swimming is not the same thing as Also Banning Wading in legal terms just to let you know.

By allowing kids to build sandcastles near the lagoon, Disney was basically saying there was no danger of an alligator waiting nearby while watching your kid build a sandcastle and then attacking when your kid lets his or her guard down. Disney fucked up by letting this happen.

If you don't want anybody engaging in activities with your lagoon, don't create Fake Beaches that allow people to get close to the water.

2) Water Skiing and Fishing is allowed

This creates the impressions that there is no real danger in the Lagoon despite the fact alligators have attacked Water Skiers before

If your aim is true. Doesn't make it wise, though.

High-velocity, small-caliber rounds are too unpredictable post-entry for hunting, IMO. Also, if it's anything like a .250-3000 Savage, the rounds tend to disintegrate if they hit a damned twig between you and the target.

"The law of Florida does not require the owner or possessor of land to anticipate the presence of or to guard an invitee or trespasser against harm from wild animals unless one of two conditions exists: the animal has been reduced to possession, or the animal is not indigenous to the locality but has been introduced onto the premises. Appellees had not reduced the alligator to possession before the attack, and since alligators are indigenous to Florida, appellees were not required to have the alligator under dominion and control."

This is the biggest flaw with the round for hunting, imo. Terminal ballistics with it are very reliable until the velocity gets too low, which limits you to a max effective range of 150 yards out of a 20 inch barrel. Anything beyond that and internal fragmentation drops off precipitously.

If Disney considered its fake lake so dangerous, why did they build fake beaches around the lagoon then?

Why advertise it like a fake safe beach?

Why did Disney take 27 years to finally ban swimming in the Lagoon when this fake lake was build around 1971 and Disney only banned swimming in 1998?

Face it, Disney got lax and greedy when creating Seven Seas Lagoon.

Amebic Meningoencephalitis

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5721a1.htm

Case Reports

Florida. On June 8, 2007, an adolescent boy aged 14 years was admitted to an emergency department (ED). His symptoms had begun June 6 with a sensation of ear pressure and progressed to severe headache and occasional vomiting the next day. On the day of admission, the youth was unable to walk and was found apneic and pulseless by paramedics. He died shortly after arriving at the ED. A diagnosis of PAM was confirmed by examination of postmortem brain tissue on September 7. The youth had access to multiple drainage ditches and canals and to an apartment swimming pool during the 2 weeks before onset of symptoms; no location was conclusively identified as the source of exposure.

On August 6, 2007, a boy aged 11 years was admitted to a hospital with possible bacterial meningitis, headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. His symptoms had begun 4 days earlier on August 2, 2007, with headache and a faint rash. Motile amebae, later identified as N. fowleri, were found in CSF samples collected August 7. The same day, the patient was treated with amphotericin B, epinephrine, mannitol, fluconazole, ceftriaxone, azithromycin, and rifampin; however, the boy died August 8. The probable source of exposure was swimming and wakeboarding at a local lake on July 28. On that date, the air temperature was 91.0°F (32.8°C); water temperature was unknown.

There's an "attractive nuisance" case to be had and I'm sure Disney will settle out of court because that's the way the world works these days, but keep in mind that this is the first incident ever reported and probably would have been the last even if no action was taken.

It's really not about being "lax and greed" it's about an increasingly-litigious and decreasingly-responsible patronage. There were no incidents which caused them to ban swimming, they simply did it because they were worried about potential lawsuits.
