California has recently overtaken France to become the world's 6th largest economy. Again, California, which exemplifies everything that /pol/ hates, is now the world's 6th largest economy. Apologize now!

Actually I assume most of the most profitable of it are movies, music and media in general, with software and engineering designs coming a close second.

They're still not mining or doing anything that doesn't require anything more than the people themselves. You could transplant them all to Wisconsin and then Wisconsin would be the sixth largest economy and instead of wine they'd sell.. syrup?

Well considering California's economy isn't exactly a separate economy from America's economy that seems kind of a silly way to frame it.

It's already been the wealthiest state in the USA by GDP for quite a long time.
>>

And California.
>>
>>77368855
>>77369089

It's correct.

However, Texas is considered a safer investment, and have a AAA credit rating, because by law, we put our taxes toward a large savings fund to pay off that debt instantly in a pinch.

No surprise. California takes up the majority of the Western coast so almost all of the goods shipped to the USA from Asia have to go through California.

You also have Silicone Valley and the whole digital technology boom which started and mostly exists in California.
>>
>>77369448

This.

California is big because it's literally sucking the western half of the country dry in this huge fucking brain and talent drain sink, because federal funds and grants keep landing there thanks to the presence of sanctuary cities.
>>
>>77369249
Texas is undergoing a massive population surge as I understand it, and not just from Illegals crossing the border.

Anecdotally, I have a family friend who works in custom contracting and there are people who pay for half a million dollar home construction with cash.

Rich people are moving into Texas because they decided they like Ranch style architecture and builders know they can sell a simple two-person ranch house for half a million as long as they build it in Texas so they don't bother going anywhere else.where the same house would sell for maybe 150k.

That MIIIIGHT be changing.

Right now, a great number of blue collar workers are jobless because all the oilfields shut down.

My dad, and lots of folks I know who do trucking and oilfield work are currently having to take jobs that are sporadic, high competition, and pay very little. Went from hauling pipes to hauling dirt.

>>77369910

It's not white Texans. It's -all- Texans. Lots of oil deposits were found in Houston and Alice and other places, and so there were a giant amount of jobs flying around that required little experience, little education, and paid very well, as long as you were willing to work nonstop(like 70 hours+ a week, with full overtime pay).

That's kinda stopped. All the development in Alice stopped too.

>Taxation also appears to be a factor, especially as it contributes to the business climate and, in turn, jobs. Most of the destination states favored by Californians have lower taxes. States that have gained the most at California’s expense are rated as having better business climates. The data suggest that many cost drivers—taxes, regulations, the high price of housing and commercial real estate, costly electricity, union power, and high labor costs—are prompting businesses to locate outside California, thus helping to drive the exodus.
And this was in 2012 too. It's only going to get worse with their latest minimum wage law.

Well 3 of the top 5 fastest growing cities in the US are Houston, San Antonio, and Austin as of the 2012 census.

If you do a search of "fastest growing cities in the US", cities/towns from Texas are always at the top of the list.

The late-80's to mid-90's had a big increase in white birthrates as the baby boomers finally decided to have their kids, far more belatedly than any previous generation.

Once that was over the gap in hispanic and white birthrates only became that much more pronounced.

Deportations no longer happen in California.
Almost all major cities are sanctuary city's.
When I was a kid, the illegals who worked the fields would line up at the grocery store and wait for border patrol to pick them up for their free ride to the border at Christmas.
Now its illegal to ask a Hispanic person is a citizen.
I was born and raised in Cali.

high usage =/= high profits.

Just because websites and apps get lots of traffic does not translate directly into dollars. Most are having a hell of a struggle with it outside fucking clash of clans.

Look at twitter.
