So what, tell him you're comparing reviews on different brands.
Theres like 200+ manufacturers of ar15's. They all "work", but quality ranges from garbage to gold.
And probably troll thread, but start with an ar15 with forward assist and chrome lined barrel, picatiny rails.

>>

And the point of an ar is compatibility.
You can share magazines and parts with all the other hillbillies, downed soldiers etc.
Also get one in 5.56. .223 chambers in theory can have issues with 5.56 pressures, but other way around is fine.
Or chambered in wylde/wildcat (can accept either)

Get a compass. Good survival knife. Flint and striker. Water purification tablets. Emergency foil blanket. MRE (rations).
And an AK. Just don't use burst fire with it, you won't hit shit. But it is a very simple gun and will work in far worse conditions than an AR.

Get a portable battery that you can plug USB devices in to. They should have them there, 6000mAh or so. Keeping your phone alive will be important.

Flashlight- maglights are the accepted standby in retail situations. Get one with an led bulb or buy the led upgrade in the rack next to it.
Do not buy shit battery's, get energizer/Duracell. Alkalines not rechargables.
Surefire makes awesome flashlights, if they have them- but a maglite and an led bulb will last for a friggin year innawoods.
Don't get some retarded Rambo knife. Get something you can actually use with one hand.
Hatchet or small saw.
550 cord if they have it (its a small rope the mi!litary uses, capable of supporting 550 pounds) you'll need it to tie up tent, secure a carcass while you're dress it, set traps etc.
Handgun is what ever brand feels comfortable in your hands.
If you weigh less than 120 pounds, get a .380.
120-190 pounds, 9mm or .40.
Over 190 pounds .45 or .50/.500.
Don't forget tent. Get one that doesn't require retarded amount of time and poles and shit. They have some that just popup now.
Sleeping bag with highest waterproof rating they have.
Unless you're in Montana, water proofing is more important than low temperature, although both matter.
>>
Really, you need to get at least 3 handguns, regardless of what else you get. I would also get 3 AR's as well. Since 2 is 1 and 1 is none, you need to get 3. If you're not a competent gunsmith buying parts is a waste of time. Get 3 guns of each you want so if one breaks during SHTF, you can pick up a new one. You could also use them for barter, and even better, you can have more triggers to pull if your survivor camp is well manned.

Defininely buy 6 semi-automatic firearms at the same time from the same vendor so he will give you a better price for buying in bulk and probably remember you in the future and give you additional discounts.

Jewish silver. Brilliant! It's heavy. It cannot feed you, nor can it quench your thirst. It cannot provide shelter, keep you warm, or even suck your dick. If you're reduced to a barter system, why not choose things that have a practical value to them.
I would say a small amount of gold isn't a bad idea if things haven't completely broken down and you can bribe your way out of the country but even then you probably couldn't take your innawoods kit.

OP LISTEN VERY CLOSELY

I'm also from Cali.

Big5 is a Fudd store.

Go to Turners, or any other store.

Here is a list of guns to buy in Cali gun shops.

>Maverick 88 shotgun

My beloved surefires use them of course, but good luck finding them in a shtf scenario.
AA' C's and D's can be found in any home. Thus why maglites are ALWAYS included in a bug out bag even if you have other flashlights.
Ka bar and cold steel both make nice products, but anon is shopping at big 5, so I'm posting accordingly.

Well, you're talking about longetivity, not reliability.
Unless he's buying a hi-point ( NOTE FOR EVERYONE- NEVER BUY A HI-POINT) he's not going to have issues with anything on the shelf at big 5. Hell, Taurus is making nice stuff now. Point is that 1911's are heavy, archaic and low capacity. Its a poor choice for an innawoods situation. Plus a modern polymer/stainless offering would do better in a shtf scenario.
Oh ya op, make sure the pistol is polymer/stainless.

Something with an internal frame and waist buckle. Don't but it at the gunstore. Go to REI and have them fit a pack for you and show you how to wear it. Assume you won't have a vehicle.

Once you have the backpack buy lightweight gear to fit it, this will keep your weight and size down.

I'd recommend:

20+ degree bag
1.5 pound tent (big agnes)
Sleeping bag liner
Insulated mat
Sawyer water filters for bottles (2x)
Backup chemical treatment (Aquamira)
Pocket knife
50ft paracord
A lightweight boot (DO NOT GET WATERPROOF)
Merino wool socks (Will help prevent blisters)

Not exhaustive, but that's what I'd have if I was planning on traveling on foot.

t. Long distance backpacker.

Less stress and better accuracy after multiple shot and high stress scenarios.
