Virtually anybody here can already buy a gun. Most choose not to, let alone carry one around everywhere they go. You certainly wouldn't see people carrying around automatics in movie theaters, nightclubs, etc. Repealing the act will not slow down the ever increasing killing sprees that are happening. Come on, people. I looking for serious answers here.
>>
>>77140278

OP is right, the problem is pic related. Why are these guns hanging up there when they should be on the backs of every american. If healthcare is a right where the government pays for healthcare for people, why shouldn't the government buy guns for everyone? I mean it's the second amendment, it's been a right for centuries. It's 2016 guys. We need everyone armed with tax dollars.

Chop the barrel on that ps90 (which is the civilian legal, SEMI AUTO variant of the p90). take the bipod off the m16 with an eotech (hard to justify the extra weight and it's unlikely you'd be using one in <200m engagements, past which you'd use a glass optic). 4 decades of being a gun nut, and here are the sweeping themes I see between the two.

Gun People:
>self determination
>accountable
>truly community based
>treat people based on their individual behavior
>respectful
>often slightly paranoid
>delusions of heroism
>sees problem, fixes it.

Anti-gun People:
>selfish
>ideological, but unrealistic
>sheltered
>book smart
>classist
>"proud" liberals, in white only neighborhoods
>see's problem, comments that "someone should fix it".
>gets mad at intolerance toward the "disadvantaged".
>gets madder when taxes go up to pay for "disadvantged" programs.

I wish lefties weren't so lame, but, alas, they are. I can only guess that it's more of a programming/indoctrination thing, because they rarely make sense these days.

>>
>>77149606
because of a stupid law passed in the 60's called the National Firearms Act. Anything with a barrel under 16" is considered a handgun, which cannot have a stock. You can either buy a rifle with no stock and a short barrel, and convert it, or buy a rifle with a too long barrel and a stock and convert it. It had to do with the fact that "its too easy to conceal". But really its just about money and registration.

>>77149914
its perfectly legal to own a full auto firearm, it just has to be manufactured before 1986. The Hughes Amendment to the NFA closed the registry of civilian full auto firearms. This caused the price to skyrocket. A full auto AR, or a real M16, is around $12,000. It is something that I would really like to see repealed.

nope. The barrel length is measured from the face of the bolt to the end of the muzzle/muzzle device. Some AR's are sold with 14.4" barrel and a long ass flash suppressor. If the ATF measures your barrel, and its 15" long, your ass is toast, buttplate or no buttplate.

compared to most rifles of its era the AR is highly modular and customizable based off of a single set of military specifications that ensured compatibility between manufacturers. it's a pretty simple platform built around CNC aluminum blocks held together with pins and springs. the rest of the furniture is clip on plastic and easily replaceable with the parts of your choice.

you cant say the same about the AK-47, even with its inherent reliability the AK is a cheap platform of stamped sheet metal (fine for 3rd world metal shops but not modern computerized CNC machines) and major components like the barrel and gas block are permanently mounted to the receiver. other components like the stock and handguards are directly fixed to the receiver and require special tools to remove, and then you have to deal with non-standardized sizes and fitting issues due to AKs being manufactured in every Ex-Soviet shithole with their own hardware and tolerances.

Also straight-pull bolts are cool. If you have even more money than that get a Springfield or a Kar98 because both are god-tier and you will enjoy the shit out of shooting them, making accurate hits at ranges that rival or exceed your friends' tacticool ARs. Also if you take good care of them they'll be worth double-quintuple what you paid in a few decades and outlive you as well

Some people should pay attention to the first bit of the second ammendment that says "A well REGULATED Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State..."

If I want to get any gun up here I have to write a test and get a license. And can only get .22s, hunting rifles, or shotguns. I personally wouldn't get a gun coz I'd probably end up blowing my brains out in a moment of weakness.

You're right, those prices are way too high. The way to fix the problem is to call for government subsidies for firearms consumers. We should have the taxpayer finance a rifle for every home, as well as regular classes in marksmanship, proper gun safety, and weapon maintenance.
Then, for those who want extra protection, firearms purchases should be tax deductible, because in what sick world should freedom be taxed?

It wont fix the problem entirely, I agree, but its a good start.

I disagree because it's just an administrative hurdle

in US, there's an established system of background checks already in place for sales through FFLs and for private sales it is up to the seller to judge if the piece in question is going into good hands

there is absolutely no 100% foolproof way of making sure weapons don't end up in wrong hands!

take my country for example: law-abiding citizens have to jump through several hoops to obtain a license and register all pieces they posess

alternatively, I can get in touch with random gyppos and buy an AK47 from Balkan wars for about 250 EUR, thereby acquiring a black market piece that isn't registered anywhere, is altogether cheaper and doesn't require any qualification

The concept is that we need police / military for national defense, and thus the common citizens must also be able to own equal firepower to them, in case they start to abuse their power and a rebellion is necessary.
>I personally wouldn't get a gun coz I'd probably end up blowing my brains out in a moment of weakness.
I always hear anti-gunners saying stuff like this, "if I had a gun I'd probably go on a killing spree", blah blah blah. It's all projection. You don't trust yourself with a gun, so you assume others cannot be trusted with a gun either. What about the millions of gun owners who will never use their guns to kill an innocent person? No where did I imply resistance is moot.

Demanding unnecessarily higher fire power to combat the government is the moot point. It is unrealistic for every citizen to have access to military grade weapons.

My point was a rifle capable of firing dozens of rounds a minute is excessive. It isn't necessary to protect ourselves from the police or foreign invaders. Its only purpose is when you are outnumbered not when you are are outnumbering.

Yes, because even if you ban the sale of semi-auto rifles, tens of millions of them will still exist.
Are you going to ban the parts of them so they can no longer be repaired?
Are you going to ban the ammunition of them so they can no longer be used?

This is an arbitrary restriction you are suggesting and it wouldn't keep anyone safer. The criminals aren't going to turn in their high capacity magazines, it would only affect the law abiding citizens.

Also, the founding fathers weren't stupid. They knew the technology would get better, and guns would evolve. Common citizens could own muskets when muskets were the gun of the military, and common citizens now should be able to own the guns identical to that of the modern military.

What does it matter if a magazine holds ten or thirty rounds? Just buy three ten-round magazines and it's the same exact thing.

In many states with magazine restrictions, every part of the firearm, including the cartridge and the magazine, is considered a "firearm" for legal purposes. Under that broad interpretation, it is still unconstitutional as the right to keep and bear arms is being infringed, but the Marxists who operate the judicial system like to disagree.
