Share your opinions, stories, or media relating to the US military occupation of Iraq from 2003 to 2012.

Why did we invade, where did we go wrong, and what should have been done instead?

Saddam was poking around the Ziggurat.

We should remove all humans from any important historical site and achieve a monopoly on all historical information for the benefit of the US.

Flawless execution until we disbanded the iraqi army and banned the bathists from holding any political postions.

That effectively created the insurgency. And prolonged the war by 5 years.
>>
>>77114671
Do you really think we were trying to exterminate them? It was about regime change

Muslims really do have a roach mentality it seems
>>

Invading was a mistake.
Dissolving their entire army and firing 400.000 experienced hajis was definitely a mistake lmao

You turkroaches will soon be eradicated from the face of this planet. Mark my words.

>Iraqi and Afghan birthrates are still sky high

Maybe in Afghanistan, but I heard the Iraqi population never fully recovered from the mass starvation brought about by the sanctions between the Gulf Wars. They never had a chance for a post-war baby-boom.

Expatriate populations are obviously shitting out babies because that's what people do when they suddenly have a much better quality of life.

My friend was in the initial invasion. I don't know what city they were near but he said they were going to pull out of the city in a week when the first IED happened. The Americans were going to leave.

We use the ocp now, which seems like just another flavor of woodland. Iirc it's only called ocp and not woodland because the army didn't want to pay for the trademarked "woodland camo" name, or something like that.

I still don't understand why the US prefers fundamentalist theocracy to national socialism over there. Our foreign policy would rather deal with terrorism for the next century than let a Middle Eastern country nationalize their oil fields. How the hell is it worth it?

post more Americans who died for Israel :^)

I went for a year in 2005 when I was in the ARMY.

It was as good as we could make it. Those people don't "give up" like civilized countries and accept any sort of terms of surrender. They keep fighting and they do it however they can.

Our job was to keep them suppressed. Just get attacked here and there and deal with it because the only thing left to do to eliminate the threat was literally wipe out the entire population.

The bad guys blended in with the good and we couldn't tell who was who. We kept finding bombs and kept raiding houses and basically that's all it was for the year. It would have been the same thing if we never left.

Trying to take over that place and set up a civilized country is NOT a realistic or practical strategy.

This is my opinion though. Saddahm Hussein's rule was not a good thing either. He did need to be kicked out. The problem is ISIS and what was left is far worse. There is no way to know what would happen. Shit just turned out like this.

Were you given the idea that it was going to be another "fuck shit up and leave" operation like Desert Storm, or was the prolonged occupation planned from the start?

I always wonder what the higher ups actually expected would happen compared to how it went down.

Simple, Sadam wanted to sell oil to China for gold and services. We said use petrol dollar or die. He died. Kadifie said he wanted to sell oil for gold and make afirican currency call the denar. We said use petrol dollars or die, he died.... any other questions?

Did you live under Saddahms rule?. Would you prefer it if the U.S. had never invaded?
>>
>>77116819

Have you ever been under fire? A study from WWII stated that the most people who were killed by bullets was because they would stop moving due to shock of seeing the guy next to him get shot.
>>
>>77114964

How shitty was life before the war compared to after it? Was the mass starvation from the sanctions prior to 2003 a real thing or was it overblown?
>>
>>77117958

I've had IED's go off right next to me. None of the people I knew froze. It's not as dramatic as movie make it to be.

Not sure if IED's compare to an onslaught of bullets. Also not sure if people who are serious pussies freeze. I just know with the people I went with we were alright. We were combat arms though. I could see some guy from supply that hardly ever goes out getting rediculously scared especially if he's not really looking for a thrill ride.

Why did we need so many private contractors in Iraq?

Wrong

Saddam maintained order in that fucking sandbox, and that is what matters. "Human rights" be damned.
>>

>maintained order in that fucking sandbox

Get the fuck out of here. You're stupid. You might not know it because you're so stupid but if it was you're human rights being violated you wouldn't be praising that faggot. You would be thinking "god, this planet sucks why am I the one getting tortured, it hurts. I wish things were better", not "yeah, things are in good working order and I'm going to die because my view is different than this guy's.

From the perspective of our government at the time, Saddam's rule was bad for us. The US could give a fuck about peace and stability when someone threatens to disrupt the oil economy.

I imagine a big problem is the fact that the bullets arrive before the sound does. Your pal goes down, you stop to look, then you hear the gunfire.

Most contractors were Indians doing what they do best, sucking shit out of Porta potties.

gotta bleed the coffers dry, only way to destroy USA
>>
>>77119623

1. Most of the high-end private security contractors are ex-spec ops who want more money and are actually paid for merit and hazard, not an arbitrary pay ranking scale and doing it for muh hot pockets.

2. Plausible deniability. Rules of engagement are highly unfavorable, when shit needs to be done, no-go zones need to be entered, etc, send in the contractors.
