Why do people want to ban the AR-15?

From my understanding, people want their government to protect them from "bad" things. If they're being told guns are bad and have no experience with them chances are they'll be anti-gun. The best thing you can do for these people is to help them get into the hobby.

I'll get to all the pre-constitution weapons that existed in a minute, but firstly to accept this premise you'd have to believe that the founding fathers were so stupid that they've never witnessed any kind of technological advancement in weaponry, Weapons have been evolved ever since the beginning of mankind.
By the the time the 2nd amendment was written many assault weapons already existed. For example, the Belton flintlock for example, or the puckle gun which was developed over 60 years before the revolutionary war (or even the pepper box revolver for fucks sakes).
Not only were the founding fathers aware of these guns but they were fans and the 2nd amendment didn't only apply to guns, but full on artillery too. Even though the 2nd amendment was written to literally include all weapons, the more you dive into it and understand its historical context the more you see the founding fathers wrote it to include every kind of weaponry.
So everytime a silly hippie makes this statement, you're only misinforming people.
