I mean, yeah lots of countries involved. But a full scale war between a Western coalition and the Greater Middle East/Islamic World? It'll be over in days.
The US invaded Iraq and destroyed their military in very little time without even using 1/100th of their military power.
The ensuing guerilla/desert war against insurgents is more difficult but if the goal is to destroy them, regardless of civilian casualties, they'll be dealt with easily as well.

Scenario #1:
EU + US vs Russia
Scenario #2:
US (maybe + EU) vs China
US + EU + Russia vs Middle-East would hardly be WW3. It would be a massacre.
There's also the unlikely scenario of EU vs US or the slightly less unlikely scenario of US + Russia vs EU but I think it will probably be one of the first 2.
