Have they ever tried getting a new job?
>>
>>76957361
If you don't want to get paid minimum wage for your lack of skills, either get skills and a better job, or shut the fuck up and quit.

In 20 years, robots will be doing the jobs of these incompetent fast food workers.
>>
>>76957700
They'll actually just be replaced by robots and touch screen ordering systems.
>>
Increasing the minimum wage means increasing the prices of everything around you. It will fuck small businesses up hardcore and allow for McDonald's and other corporations who can afford it to go for robots.
>>
>>76957361
hes got a point. and by increasing the wage of workers they buy more witch in return helps the country economy and the areas they live in.

What kind of idiotic logic do you use Germany? A Rich man wouldn't go around spending $100 on x amount of Bic macs at Mcdonalds. A rich man would drop Mcdonalds altogether and spend $100 on 1 fine ass piece of meat and wine from a fancy restaurant.

Hell even women wouldn't be that stupid too stay loyal to mcdonalds. Though they would end up at a buffet though.

If you want more money, get more profitable skills & knowledge

If businesses are forced to pay labor more than it's worth, that's called a price floor and artificially entices unemployment
>>
>>76958314
>rich people don't spend money, they just sit on piles of it and swim in it like Scrooge McDuck
>>
>>76959430
They Kinda do though. They'll keep exorbitant amounts in offshore accounts to avoid taxes, and when was the last time you caught a "rich" person putting money back into the economy buy supporting local businesses?

I hate liberal rhetoric, but the rich really do horde wealth. I'm middle class and only make about 55k a year, and even I horde wealth. It's just in a savings account, but I mean, I do it, why wouldn't someone who makes 100x more, be hordeing 100x more?
>>

What im trying to say is, dont go to Tennessee if you dont have to, its "The hills have eyes 4" down there.

I live in Louisiana, and self-checkouts were implemented in many stores. About 2-3 years later, most stores removed them. But I live in an area with a large elderly population, so I figured it was that.

More mexicans = more workers in the labor force = more competition = lower wages.

If you want to raise wages, you have to get rid of workers so competition will go down.

Raising minimum wage only raises the price of every other good.

The rich put money back into the economy when they pay all of their operating costs.

It may have taken a decade of yearly incremental $0.40 cent hourly wage raises, but the work is more streamlined than fast food. At least working at a Burger King for 5 years got the work ethic part out of the way, but I work less harder at wally world than I did in fast food.

>>
>>76966515
You are a FUCKING IDIOT.

Why do corporations hire people?
To make more money.

The amount of people that they hire is based on how much profit vs cost that the employee brings in.

If you increase the cost of hiring an employee, then less employees will be hired.

THE KEY WORD HERE IS LESS EMPLOYEES BEING HIRED.

A HIGHER MINIMUM WAGE WILL DESTROY JOBS, THE FUCKING UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WILL SKY ROCKET.
>>
>>76967980
Well thats the real difficulty here.
These people are clearly not financially sound in the first place, they likely have credit cards at the max, loans, a tanking credit rating, kids, and a place they can't afford along with a mortgage they can't afford.
All of this and they continue the trend, and financial education doesn't appeal to them, getting a cert or apprenticeship doesn't appeal to them, yet they somehow make time to lobby the government for minwage increases.
The ones that aren't paid protestors are probably just idiots with poor judgement and mental health issues. Their lives are total messes and there is no fixing it without accreditation and working at a better job. Its not like these jobs aren't there either, especially in america, but I think the real truth is that these people either cant or wont pursue these jobs for 'reasons'.
>>
>>76968758

Hey, it won't 'sky rocket'. According to a government study(which I can't find for the life of me) thousands of jobs will be lost, thats not argued at all by any serious analysis. They just go on to point out that these people who still have jobs will then spend more in the economy. So instead of two 11/hour employees, you have one 15/hour employee. The other 11/hour employee in the liberal argument is going to somehow get another job somewhere or go into training and get a higher paying job, while the other employee's productivity magically increases and he's able to afford everything that he couldn't before. At least until the next minwage hike for the unions wage increases.
Honestly, the way the governments going it doesn't matter. Over 70% believe in minwage increases, I say let it happen. Let the economy flush down the sinkhole and have less small business be able to make payroll. That the real truth behind this, big corporations with huge bankrolls will be able to weather this while Tim's Hardware will suffer the most, the poor will lose their jobs and be surprised that their cost of living went up.
Let it all burn.

Most of the jobs that people are trying to get a $15/hour min wage increase in are low skill, low education jobs that should only serve as an entry point into the workforce to begin with. Retail, fast food, etc... etc... should never be looked at as a way to sustain yourself long term, unless you're progressing through the ranks to manager, district manager, etc...

The best way to work it, I think, would be for starting positions to have no minimum wage. This would allow for companies to be competitive against each other for the best employees. After a person works for the company for X amount of time (5 years would be sufficient, I would say), the company should be required to give that person a living wage - preferably salary based. This would promote the idea that people should be bettering themselves, promote loyalty to a company, and force a company to give more responsibility to long term employees - even if it's just putting them to work full time. And any company who was notorious for firing people just short of the X time mark would be blacklisted by people looking for work, and couldn't sustain that business model for long. Of course, that relies on the thought that for any particular job, labor isn't super easy to obtain. It's not the perfect solution, but it is the best solution that I have.

Look, you're barking up the wrong tree here if you want a difficult discussion. Everyone here is aware the economy is complex as shit. There are arguments on both sides of the issue as to whether it will help/hurt the overall economy but the truth is that the economy doesn't exist for poor people. It's designed for profit, and profit fuels everything else in the economy. Poor people have a higher standard of living today and much more social programs like medicare in the states because the federal government is paying out the ass in debt for it.
Its not real money. Its unsustainable.
You need profit to hold this whole system up, the only reason we can even have this much debt in the federal government is that we collect so much in taxes so we can make the payments.
Liberalism has a limit. Minwage has a limit. If you're arguing we haven't gotten to that limit yet, you're insane. Your country can't handle it, and neither can the U.S.

>Entry point to what jobs?
Any job. Any prior work experience looks good on a resume/application for work, especially if you were at that job long term, as employers don't especially enjoy hiring and training (it's costly).

>40 hours of weekly work should not be enough to sustain a family?
Depends on the job you're doing. If you're a frycook at McFats, then no, you shouldn't be able to sustain a family on that wage. Literally every non-retarded person in the world can replace you. It's supply and demand. There is a much larger supply of low skill/education workers, and a larger demand for low pay workers. The two meet and that's why you see what you have in the US today.

>Goodbye, long term employement. Unless you want to implement job security regulation with it?
This wouldn't even be necessary. Companies typically like to have long term employees to help train younger hires, etc... There would certainly be some firing of employees who underperformed, and that's would be both expected and justified. Most employees that did good work, and stayed at a entry level job for such a long amount of time would probably be promoted to full time (most only work 16-20 hours a week right now) which would make them a larger asset to the company.

>poor people can be picky when it comes to work. And this is how you spot a sheltered person, guys. Maybe even a lolbertarian
I started working when I was 17 (At McFats) to make sure that my family would have electricity because my father couldn't hold a job, and my mother didn't/couldn't work. I was held back a semester in school because the only shift I could get was late in the evening/early morning and I missed and failed a bunch of my early morning classes. I served in the military for 5 years and saw what everyone making equal pay does to a group of people (you have some who excel and keep everything running, and you have some who take 45 minute smoke breaks every hour). I've seen enough to make informed decisions.

>Our economies are now reliant on shitty service sector jobs, iirc they are the majority of jobs.
For the US at least, public jobs are majority of jobs (working for the federal, state, or local governments - politicians, teachers, military, etc...), so that's incorrect. And almost all public jobs have a salary based pay system, so they're making a living wage. Also, when you think about "shitty service sector jobs" many of them pay a living wage as well - part time and full time managers, district managers, regional managers, etc...

>Why? Why should someone devot almost 5 days of his week and in the end can't have a reasonable life?
Most service employees who want a $15 minimum wage don't work 5 days a week, or 40 hours. But, not considering that, simply because they are replaceable. Like I said, literally anyone on the planet can replace them. And since anyone can replace them, they aren't worth anything. It would be like going into a store and seen two stands of bananas. On one stand, the bananas cost $1.00, on the other stand the bananas cost $2.00. There is nothing different about the bananas other than the cost. Which one do you buy? Same concept. Though I get the feeling you would buy the $2.00 bananas to make them feel better about themselves.

>No, they would hire someone for a few months, then fire him and hire another. You know, like they did in industrial revolution
A company will retain any employee who shows that they can perform well enough to be an asset to the company. People who perform well, take on leadership roles, and increase the value of the company will be kept on, despite the increased salary they would get. There's a lot of value in having older, well trained employees around and companies understand this. The best employees will be retained, the others will be fired. Think of it as economic evolution if you want. Survival of the fittest.

Even mindless jobs require hiring and training, both of which are expensive (it costs something like $1000 to hire and train a frycook at McJews, is a quote I once heard, and takes about 6 months of minimum wage work by the employee for the company to recoup that expenditure), also when a company fires an employee, that employee is entitled to unemployment benefits - the company basically has to pay them to sit around on their ass until they find another job. Again, it's in the companies best interest to fire as few people as possible.

>You mean, when the poor starving guy stabs you in a robbery? Yes, survival of the fittest
I mean, I guess? But no minimum wage for entry level jobs is going to create a lot more jobs, so even that poor starving guy is going to be able to find a job more easily (and thus have more money) than if the minimum wage got increased, making fewer jobs available.
