Pretty much almost everyone when I grew up there ran a clothes dryer every day and AC 75% of the 24 hour period. They also have central heating/cooling that is superior to the wall mounted AC's of EU/Australia/Asia further bringing their costs down. Every house is actually built around the AC ducts.

If you don't run AC in the summer, or a dehumidifier(which costs as much as an ac to run), mold will have a fucking party in your house and you'll have a way bigger problem than paying a small utility bill.

Maybe because about half of America is covered with humid continental or humid sub tropical climates which easily get 90°+ I'm summer with also high humidity and as others have said blowing around hot humid air won't do shit. I live in the south and this image so much this image.
My last apartment was on a corner with no trees near the building, bedroom was south facing (2nd flr) and it easily got up to 90 in my bedroom (that didn't have an AC unit) in May of last year.
This year in my new apt on the ground floor has trees all around it. I moved in last summer and the highest temp I saw without A/C running at 84F. Currently it's 92F outside and my temp is reading 81 (w/o A/C on) but it feels more like 75F.
Humidity currently being 35% is really helping though.

Your love for AC is nothing compared to the madness you can witness in Asia. Korea and Japan aren't that bad anymore thanks to energy saving regulations but i've been in places where the AC was on so strong with doors open they were pretty much cooling the entire street. As in the street in that place was literally 5-7 degrees or more cooler. That's some terraforming shit right there.
Some lines of the Seoul subway are so cold in the summer you could probably store your drinks there.
If you go in SEA then its even worse and the temps dont change much so they do this all year round.

The heat isn't all that bad in reality but as an anon said earlier mold is a problem. You can run a dehumidifier and I do but it outputs out air too in your room and the last thing you want is a fucking heating device. So i do use AC to keep my room from becoming a mushroom heaven
