I hear a lot of talk about price floors on labor, but what about price ceilings on essential goods? Maybe we should cap the prices for food, shelter, etc.
The main problem now is the welfare state. Welfare subsidizes low income jobs. We need the minimum wage to be above welfare or we need to change how welfare works.

Minimum wage around here is 3.1 USD and most people don't have any problem keeping a high standard of living WHILE having state funded healthcare. I have a nice PC, musical instruments, I live in a clean neighborhood, I eat nice food and buy a lot of books, and I don't have to pay 50000 USD medical fee when I break a leg.
