Post-Brexit thread.

What do you guys think of the UK moving closer to the Commonwealth if when we leave the EU? Free trade and free movement between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom? Military alliances? One currency?

Free trade yes. Alliances with some.
Free movement wouldn't work and could be worse than the EU
Single currency would be undesirable and literally unworkable.

I'd be happy to be economically closer to the Commonwealth and increase cooperation with them on international issues. Never a political union, the time for that has long passed.

I disapprove of this thread.

Why wouldn't free movement work? If it's restricted to the developed countries that speak english and don't have overwhelming populations, I don't see what could go wrong. Can, Aus, NZ, and UK are more similar than the countries of the EU, and maybe even more similar than some of the states in the US

I think highly of it, and wonder why they haven't been closer all along. There are way more benefits with a commonwealth bond than a EU one.

I welcome it, as long as we retain our sovereign borders and the right to refuse entry to any undesirables who have managed to escape into Britain and Canadia. The fact that you threw in with the wogs for so long will be hard to forget however.

Hopefully the British Socialist Republic is established.

Certainly. It's a shame that our fucking pathetic Labour Government did that to us. They threw all our countries to the dogs so they could profit off of cheap unskilled workers from abroad. Hopefully we can put this behind us and make things right again, though.

We're all fucking miles away from one another and it's already relatively simple for Commonwealth members to live and work in other Commonwealth countries as it is. One of the things with free movement in the EU was that it would eventually lead to nations not really being considered nations so that travelling from Spain to France would be considered no different to travelling between Cornwall and Devon.

You wouldn't be able to justify only having free movement between some Commonwealth countries and not others, the others would rightly ask why, the more developed ones would constantly lobby to get free movement as well and it would undermine friendship between countries.

Free movement just isn't worth the hassle. I'd like Commonwealth to prioritise other Commonwealth immigration, as long as people have useful skills/qualifications.

I do love the Commonwealth, I just don't think it needs to be a strongly political group. I'd be more than happy to have some sort of economic partnership and closer international cooperation though. I'm just wary of any political entity with something like freedom of movement becoming EU 2.0 over time.

Political union wouldn't work very well either since the less developed Commonwealth countries have huge populations which would give them massive political power in any sort of Commonwealth parliament

If the UK makes the commonwealth with military alliances and unique currency it wouldn't be that much diferent of EU.

Except it would only apply to the commonwealth realm, which is mostly highly developed. The shitholes in the realm are too tiny to make a difference and probably would not agree to free movement anyway, because they know that their populations would run for the hills to the more developed countries.

>Free trade and free movement between Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom?

Canada, Australia and New Zealand would be against that.

Military alliance... too far apart.

Currency... too different economies for that to work.

Be realistic, Tommy, what will happen post-Brexit is that Scotland will break off, Northern Ireland will stay with Ireland and England & Wales will negotiate a trade deal with the EU for 4-5 years, and then thereafter will take another 5 years or so to establish most trade deals it had when it was part of the EU.

And then just imagine what happens once Corbyn is Prime Minister. Your country will go all socialist retard protectionist... say sionara to your jobs.

It really isn't mostly highly developed at all, the vast majority of people in the Commonwealth come from Africa or India/Bangladesh.

Economic partnerships would be nice but free movement or political union is silly
