I don't know about duckduckgo, I think /g/ knows more about the privacy issue there.
I've been using DDG for about 6 months now and it's perfectly fine. When the results start sucking I just do !g <search terms> to use Google.

Use Firefox. Firefox is immensely configurable. I don't mean that you can add wallpapers to it. You can do that, too, sure. I'm talking about having the ability to go under the hood and rip out stuff you don't want, tweak things to improve on them, and add things to make Firefox overall better. I'm talking about the "about:config" settings. And then there are the add-ons and extensions to make Firefox behave in the way you imagine a browser should. The only limit is your imagination and you willingness to do some light research to help show you the way.
As for a search engine, use none other than Startpage. Yes, Startpage uses jewgle to give search results. No, Startpage does not log your ip address when you search (jewgle and bing do). Nor does it send any information over to jewgle. DuckDuckGo is owned and operated by a jew. Jewgle is jew-owned and operated. Bing is crypto-jew owned and jew operated.
