I don't know about commiefornia or jew york but in other states you can literally just walk into Ye Olde Gun Store, pick a gun of your choice (if the gun store is also a firing range they may let you try the model you want if they have one that they rent out to people), then you have to fill out a form for a background check and if you're not a criminal you get your gun in 3 days.
