Longbow is dick against armor and has a tough time penetrating thick quilted gambesons. Crossbow can work but only if it has an extremely heavy draw. Guns (and they have been present on the battlefield since the late 1300s mind you) have always been the best bet against armor.
Spears are effective weapons against armor, but Japanese spears never really developed into tips specialized for dealing with armor such as the awl pike's. They could get through armor by lancing someone with a charge ahorse, but European knights were much better at the joust. Japan (and the rest of the far east really) never really figured out how to do that with less than two hands, giving the Euro an advantage in that contest too.
Not saying it's impossible, but Europe had far greater proliferation of armor and therefore far greater proliferation of implements that could deal with armor.

Two support points means that less force is dispersed by the blade's flexibility. Much more force from that swing went into the center than if the sword was only held at the pommel. You don't, hussar lances brake on impact as they are hollow inside from the handle/ball until the arrowhead to be much lighter and safer for the rider.

You drop the broken lance and take out your koncerz (1.4-1.6m sword/spear) and keep impaling soft/armoured targets with that, drop it after impaling. P.S. Winged hussars had a whole logistic support behind them, in general 2-3 bollards with 1 hussar knight. They took care of the hussar's equipment (wagons with lances etc.), horses etc.

Samurai's got paid in food. Which was essentially land and slaves, since a set amount of produce would have to be harvested by peasants on some feudal land to make the payments.
The organization system was a bit screwy though. Not allowing them to be paid cash meant common peasants would be rich as fuck, while their nominal ruling Samurai's would be starving and dirty. Of course, this also stopped Samurai's from being able to easily turn on their masters, which I suppose was the point.
Also, it's really just an elaborate extension of Western Europeans turning their guns on their own men when they retreat.
