Well, it's still a good spot but gotten a little too well Whitewashed is the bar at the end of the Cocoa Beach A1A pier. I used to love the spot because the pier was, well not seedy, but more had the atmosphere of a cozy dive bar you know? It's been remodeled and repaired by some large corporation. It looks nice now but it's also now more crowded and doesn't have the same ambiance. Still the pier bar is far and away the best place to watch...outside of a charter boat and a 12 pack of beer I guess.

I appreciate the wildlife, where I work is fenced off and mostly undisturbed land. I work Saturdays and being as there's no manager around on the weekend after I get done with my daily duties i'll go take a walk around the plant. On any given saturday I almost always see a herd of deer, several Black racers, a bunch of resident wild turkeys that have so lost any fear of people they come up and pester you for food, an Eastern Diamondback rattler that lives near the service road, some manatee that hang out by the river that runs along the property, a bunch of Gopher tortoise (which are considered Endangered, but I don't believe it, those things are everywhere and supposedly they have longer lifespans than humans), some Bald Eagles, I've seen a few bobcat, and we've all seen a coyote every once in awhile. My old boss claimed to have seen a cougar but if he's right than that cat was a long ways from his home territory being in Central florida.
Anyways, yeah, Florida is a good state for wildlife spotting with 0 effort

The Haitians are so incompetent they managed to send their half of the island into a terminal cascade. For anyone that hasn't read about this, the haitians gave the world's biggest example of the tragedy of the commons...they chopped down nearly every tree on their island to make fucking charcoal for fuel. Now you'd probably think "well it must be ugly as shit now" and you'd be right even aside from the residents.
Oh no, but you see, Haiti slopes towards the ocean, and the forests held the topsoil in place. with no trees every time it rains (and given they're on a tropical island, that's pretty frequently) a little more topsoil is washed away into the Caribbean never to return. So now the soil is utterly depleted of nutrients and they can't grow new trees and crops even if they could stop from holding their hands out screaming "GIBMEDAT" long enough to try.
In short, if the "international community" ever has a catastrophe and can't afford to chuck charity food Haiti's way some day, they'll literally all starve to death. Or they'll try to invade the Dominican Republic like a horde of ghouls

We call those box turtles in mississipi i really thought it was just a generic term for fucking land turtles after googling some images i agree with you those type of turtles are everywhere actually i see more of those gopher turtles than actual box turtles down here.
i really fucking learned something new today that's pretty awesome.
also i literally raised and released fucking at least a dozen of those gopher turtles as a kid i'd find them crossing the road and if they were really small i'd take them home and raise them tell they got big then let them go sometimes they would stick around the backyard it was nice.
