I've had this theory that languages, and in some cases, dialects influence how people think.

Some languages force people to have an internal compass because of the lack of the words "right and left."

Instead they will say, "to your northeast" etc.

The Chinese have a higher prevalence of perfect pitch because the tone of each word can change its meaning drastically.

"Ma" can mean horse, or mother, depending on the tone.

Very interesting really.
>>
>>76686438
To reiterate, a discussion about how the structure of languages effect the politics of a nation would be much more interesting than some half drunk plumber's shitposting.

>you sound really insecure
>>
>>76686438
Cultures develop languages. Cultures develop as a result of the genetic makeup of the people in it.

Many black languages are only spoken - not written and thus you can see that they do not think ahead.

Something even weirder than Chinese, whole whistled language
>>
>>76686330
See, a masculine black guy standing in front of an American flag would make sense, given those stats. But when the flag is Polish and 98.6% of Poles are white, what does that say about that 98.6%?
>>
>>76686636
There we go. An actual discussion.

I agree, the lack of an easily written language can be a detriment to a society. If you can't pass on knowledge efficiently over the years you will inevitably lose it.

I find it interesting that the African nations that adopted french, english, and Dutch are the most well off.

Check the top 5.

>but egypt!

They don't speak Egyptian or write in hieroglyphs.

>>
>>76685779
That is actually limiting. Your trade deals are "rights"?

It is your "right" not to be able park on a red curb?
>>
>>76686674
Interesting read.

I'd like to see how it affects cognitive function on average compared to other click and whistle languages.

That gets my dick hard.
>>
>>76687229
I think it's more like "right" as in correct.

Doing the right thing, is doing the correct thing, is doing the lawful thing.
>>
>>76685779
haha polacks can't afford separate words for right and law.
>>

You're close but it's right as "turn right" and right as in "it's right (good) thing to do"

Stay pleb, Ivan.

Correct and the direction are the same word in English.
>>
>>76685779
Same in spanish

Derecho-> Law, right. Right side
>>
>>76689047
It enable you to think in different ways
>>
>>76685779
Its not really
prawo - law
w prawo - to the right direction
prawda - truth
prawo - a right (as in a right to something), but it doesn't have the same connotations as being right
>>
>>76689047
No. It fulfills the Chinese proverb that learning a new language gives you a whole new other mind with which to judge reality (second language, new person).
The main thing is that we get people to see that reality always exists outside of perfect understanding, and that we never prioritize the model over the data, which is the central liberal-progressive-leftist error.
>>
>>76688868
Jared Loughner (the guy who shot Gabrielle Giffords as a foreshock of Obama's fake as fuck shooting streak) has this major fixation on a sort of inversion of Sapir-Whorf that he called "Infinite Language."

At least our language doesn't share common roots with Afrikaans
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrikaans

No wonder they all want to emigrate

>>76689558
Similar in Romanian

Drept = Law
la dreapta = to the right side
dreptate = justice/fairness
drept = a right/rightful
>>
>>76689645
Would it ever be possible to create the perfect language?

For example: creating a language that relies on perfect pitch (tonal), internal compass (north, south, etc instead of left, right). Then making homophones of words that you want people to make associations with, like how law=right in polish and other languages in order to promote certain values.

I know, "right" wouldn't be used in this scenario for a directional language it was just an example.

I'm starting a list. Anyone know of other strange benefits languages have?

I hear Esperanto is crazy easy to learn, and was engineered to be that way.
>>
>>76691235
Esperanto is useless, I think the idea was to create upgraded latin without all those crazy gramatics, but languages must evolve on their own and can't be force just like that

On the other hand I think upgrading Latin isn't a stupid idea after all
>>
>>76691235
What? You don't speak Lojban?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lojban
>>
>>76691413
I completely agree and can point to Esperanto's lack of popularity as evidence.

But, hypothetically, if you could enforce such a thing, I can see a lot of benefits if it's done right.
>>
>>76691510
I like the idea of a logic based language, but a lot of the inherent benefits of languages come from the nuances that lojban might lack.

I'm not sure if I would use the same logic they did though. From what I read, they take the sounds a word makes in all different languages and emphasizes the sounds based on the number of speakers.

I would lean further towards a word that sounds familiar enough in the major labguages, but can be pronounced by all nations easily.

English is a hilarious problem for most Japanese.

Japanese, like Italian, require a vowel at the end of each words. I think this is the mayor problem for the japs.

Lojban has ending vowels for each words, it's very easy to spell out, but it has super weird grammar.
>>
>>76685779
In Nederlands Rechts is right it can also mean law depending on the context.
>>
In Italian, "figa" means both "vagina" and "beautiful".
Maybe this is why we don't like homos.
>>
>>76685779
In Polish 'w' and 'z' are words.

What the fuck slavs, explain yourselves.

In Finnish the word for right "oikea" (correct, real, authentic) can also mean justice "oikeus" ("rightness"). Same in Swedish (rätt).
