Glock 19
You don't want any exotic caliber.

You need to buy a weapon that is absurd overkill that no human being would ever require for self defense.

A belt fed LMG is a good starting point, but any assault weapon should do. Anything that shoots a good number of bullets, really.

Buy a golden deagle brand deagle. The 44 mag version is on the roster and you can buy the 50 ae barrel conversion for maximum libshit butthurt

If you are looking for a striker fired polymer handgun for concealed carry/defense I would highly recommend the Sig p320, the Walther ppq, or the HK vp9. They are all very high quality, precise, highly reliable firearms. I recommend feeling the three and seeing which one you prefer. I personally carry a vp9.

9mm is a great round. buy some Speer gold dot jhp rounds, or Hornady critical defense jhp if your local store doesnt have gold dot.

If you really cant accept the fact that terminal ballistics differences between modern 9mm and .40 rounds are completely negligible, despite 9mm having better capacity and slightly lower recoil, then just get 10mm and be done with it.

If you are a .45 fag, all the same things that you say .45 does better than 9mm or .40 caliber 10mm does better than .45.

That being said, all duty calibers work. 9mm just has higher capacity and cheaper ammo than most.

Exactly. I will never understand why glockfags cant grasp the purpose of the product they espouse.

The glock is the honda accord of handguns.
Simple, reliable, cheap, and get the job done.

I really like both glocks and accord, even though I own neither.

The difference being that accord owners dont go up to turck owneds claiming their car can tow more
They dont go up to toyota camry owners claiming their accord is twice as reliable
They dont go up to porsche 918 spyder owners and claim their accord is faster

Glock owners need to understand their product and stay in their own lane

The part your argument falls apart is that most of those metrics; towing and "going fast" are in any way applicable to firearms. Reliability is though, and Glocks are as or more reliable than any handguns on the planet. That's a proven fact.

If you are going to shoot a lot be very aware of the cost of ammo. I shoot thousands of rounds in a summer and the cost of the ammo makes the cost of the gun sort of irrelevant.

.500 is awesome but the .460 S&W Magnum allows for you to use .45 Colt and .454 Casull for practice. Also, keep in mind that factory .500 S&W runs about twice what .460 S&W does cost wise. If you don't reload, the .500 can put you in the poor house quick.

Debating on my first gun. I have a tactical semi-auto shotgun I can pick up (lightly used) for $400 and it's got great reviews. (Escort Tactical).

It seems like a great fit since I've used a shotgun before and is easy enough to keep and maintain. Trouble is, loading a shotgun in shituations may lead to errors and fucking up so something with a mag seems better for home defense perhaps.

This leads me into pistols, however I've used glocks and barettas before and I am a shitty shot so this gets me thinking on revolvers however we end back at square 1 since in a hectic situation loading isn't ideal. I also don't have a CC permit yet so it seems kind of pointless right now.

Then it takes me to rifles where I have tons of options, but I'd want to put some serious money into. $600 starting minimum and I don't quite have that right now.

Oh also there's a used KSG shotgun at a local pawnshop for just under $800 I may be able to get in a week or two if it's still there.

6920 is a solid AR, the standard.

Get a handgun first as they are the most practical. Any major manufacturer would be fine, the Glock and Sig examples posted are good.

I wouldn't bother with a shotgun unless you have an interest in hunting.

You can always buy the California unapproved handguns as consignment purchases at stores from law enforcement personnel. I recently bought a colt govt. model that way even though they are banned. Most fun stores that serve police departments also sell to the public so just walk into one and ask what LEO guns they have on consignment that are for sale.

Why not just buy a pink tutu that has little led's that spell "LOOK AT ME" in various colours?

Be real about what you want.

And if you ever go buy a gun for an adult reason, I recommend a .38 s&w. That's what I have. My gun is for a situation in which I would be choosing prison over death, so it absolutely has to fucking work. Very easy to learn to shoot, very unobtrusive to carry, and if you ever (hahaha no) manage to get a wife, she can use it too with very little training.

I don't really have an interest in hunting, but I did enjoy shooting skeet when I had the opportunity a few years back. And I have to admit the power and versatility offered by shotguns is quite enticing to me.

This said, I am a far better shot with a rifle.

The general thought seems to be on pistols, so while I'll regret passing on what looks like a fantastic shotgun, I'll dive deeper into pistols tonight and tomorrow.

As for your "MUH SPEC OPS" most of them use Glocks these days,

Both the 226 and 92 are very well proven designs that are more than suitable in every performance regard, like most modern handguns from major manufacturers. Whatever decided the 80's mil selection, you sure as hell don't know it.

>Whatever decided the 80's mil selection, you sure as hell don't know it.

On 14 January 1985, the U.S. Army adopted the Beretta Model 92F as the United States Pistol, Caliber 9mm, M9. Beretta received a five-year contract worth $75 million for 315,930 pistols. It should be noted the 92F won based solely on a lower price per unit basis because the Sig-Sauer P226 also completed all the tests satisfactorily. With this announcement, the M9 became the first handgun to be adopted by all branches of the military. The contract also had provisions for domestic production, so Beretta USA Corporation would take over full production of the M9 by the start of the contract’s third year.

It has this obnoxious flag that pops up when you have a round chambered. /k/ hated that feature but it definitely does its intended job. It also has a thumb safety which I prefer having.

The towing and going fast are features desired in cars that, in my analogy, serve as rough parallels to things that are desirable in firearms, say quality of sights or smoothness of trigger pull.

Glocks, for instance, don't have the best trigger pull, and their sights are notorious for being the first thing most people change.

Tolerances so tight that you need to "shoot 500 rounds to break it in" have no place other than the highest tier of competitive shooting firearms.

Why the fuck would you need those tolerances in a concealed carry weapon where ease of access and reliability are far more important in self defense scenarios?

Want to make sure that you aren't .1mm off his left ventricle when firing from 25 yards?
