I have Quad 980s, I don't use AMD because their CPUs have pins. I choose hardware for their performance not because I prefer a certain brand.
Even as a Nvidia fanboy, AMD definitely upped their game with the R9 Fury X, much smaller, doesn't consume a lot of power, cheap, and even is water cooled.

This isn't even about being progressive. AMD is literally only afloat because of loans from Abu Dhabi, otherwise they'd either be bankrupt or VIA-tier. Additionally a very large portion of their sales and even a good number of their employees come from places like Pakistan and the Middle East since they're basically a value brand.

The memory bandwidth barely does anything for the Fury X because it's bottlenecked by rasterizers and other things. There's a reason why they made Tonga 256-bit instead of 384-bit like Tahiti and suffered practically zero performance deficit. the Fury X and Nano are basically proof-of-concept cards in many ways.
HBM is certainly innovative and paves the way for high-bandwidth GPUs in the future but don't act like Fiji is a particularly good chip. NVIDIA won this generation with GM200, their first decisive victory since 40nm (though still by a smaller margin).

Bullshit. Intel could have produced Skylake on TSMC's 28nm HP node and it would still beat the shit out of anything AMD could offer. You could have even made the case that AMD had somewhat of an advantage in fabrication when it was their bulk CMOS nodes against GloFo's FD-SOI, though generally Intel did have a lead in moving on to new nodes and making these nodes mature and efficient... GloFo's 32nm FD-SOI was a fucking disaster at first.

Who the fuck is dumping x86-64 for ARM besides microservers and other extremely low-power and small form factor applications? Intel might be uncompetitive if you're looking at 3W SoCs but if you think ARMv8 can scale up to 130W and compete with Broadwell-E you're nuts.

Do you know how complicated a process that would be due to the x86 crosslicensing agreements? It's quite possible that if someone bought AMD they would lose the x86 license and essentially be unable to continue producing desktop CPUs. They'd be at the mercy of Intel and government agencies that deal with anticompetitive practices.

AMD hasn't been Intel's main problem for a long time. The main problem is that people are more likely to buy handhelds than PCs, and they gave up on handhelds because they were stuck at 10% market share with the atom. ARM based chips have been the vast majority of that market for a while.
Now they are trying to look at server side but are facing huge competition from IBM and other sever companies.
