It's kind of nice having scheduled raises and whatnot, just feel like I could do better in the private sector with negotiable pay. I am a grade 12 now in a very high locality pay area. Will likely be a 13 in 5-7 years, maybe even a 14 if I go for service chief in 10-12 years.

Lowly GS-12 posting on pol during business hours. Way to be. No, it wasn't worth getting the doctorate and debt when you look around at all of the dindus who have ZERO education and are either at an equal or higher pay grade. It also shouldn't take you that long to move up from 12 to 15. It's one year time in grade for each. Move to DC, make your grades, then find a comfy spot somewhere with cheap cost of living.

I'm in NOVA planning my escape. Made 15 in 2014 at 32. In terms of federal employee residential demographics most Blacks live in Maryland and most Whites live in NOVA but there has been a steady migration of Whites as far south as Fredericksburg because of high housing prices in NOVA. I'm just a few miles from DC so I appreciate the short commute, but at 2500 a month I am surrounded by Ethiopians and Hardcore Muslims. Best advice I ever got...come to DC, suffer, rank-up, leave. If you choose NOVA Alexandria City is OK - just pay attention to the neighborhoods because of mixed income housing models and Arlington is pretty much the same as well. McClean is awesome but expensive.
