If you do choose a rifle build your own it's way cheaper. You can put together a basic AR for 500 bucks. If that's too much get a Stevens 12 gauge. Anything that has to go through an FFL is permanently logged in their bound book which is required record keeping by the ATF. Free float barrel helps with accuracy due to less interefence with the barrel and in turn barrel whip.
Carbine is typically better for shorter barrels, lighter BCGs, and for .300BLK caliber.
Mid is better for longer barrels and heavier/MIL spec BCGs.
Preferably, unless you plan to be indoors a lot clearing rooms with it, just get a mid length or full length barrel assembly and gas system.
Unless you're going to use .300BLK, then stick with your only option of Carbine length gas system and carbine or SBR barrel

I have a PSA bcg i havnt shot it much but it is 158 carpenter steel. Just stay away from nitrided bolts they tend to chip and get fucked up. Stick with phosphate coated BCG's they are fine and not that hard to clean.

Well you can spend what you want but if you spend any more than $1,000 on a AR15 you are pissing money away. Colt 6920 is a good rack grade AR15 you can get them on sale for $800. If you want something a more boutique you could get something with a mid length gas system and rails for a little more.
