This mostly came in after the war spread out of Poland into the Soviet Union, but a lot of Germany's strategy was centered around securing resources. They had no colonies and their European holdings were small and devoid of resources. They needed to win an early war fast and secure resources as fast as possible.
We see this in Japan as well: before taking on America they needed to rush Indochina and Indonesia to secure the oil and rubber they didn't have themselves. And even then the Japanese took a very risky gamble: they needed to both sink all America's aircraft carriers in Pearl Harbor AND achieve all of their goals in the pacific within six months. Longer than six months and America's industry would allow their fleet to recover.
Japan failed in both fronts: three aircraft carriers were out of port during Pearl Harbor, a fourth survived the bombings and the Japanese failed to win the war within six months. They had already lost at that point.
