I am currently in my last year of school for History.

I want to be a teacher, and there are 10,000,000 job openings for US/World History teachers in my state, and in nearby states.

The pay may suck, but the one good thing about being a teacher is that you have your pick of the litter as far as where you want to work goes.

Any other teachers here? What state do you teach in? I live in Florida, but I doubt I want to teach here, it sucks.

Lawfag student here. Went to my first job interview ever today, aiming to get a job as an intern in a nice big office. They put me in a room with 5 other people like me and made us talk about ourselves and other things, then I had to write an essay about my hopes and dreams and then translate a text from english to portguese and another from portuguese to english. Also it's the first time I wore a suit that I actually owned.

I'm still embarassed and shaking a little. They say they'll e-mail us telling us if we fit their profile in up to a month.

I hope I did well. Wish me luck lads.

26 year old college grad with a B.S. in Finance. 3.3 GPA. Pretty much coasted through college with no real motivation of finding a living that was not funded by my parents.

Use a Temp Agency. Sometimes the jobs they give you are sweet. I worked at the HQ of one of the biggest lenders in America, it was the sweetest 3 month gig of my life. Now working permanently for a tech company in the auto industry. Health insurance, 401k, the whole 9.

Seriously, anyone who isn't a total moron, and doesn't have a better idea should just get an IT certification. Millennials tend to underestimate how tech illiterate the bulk of the population is. You don't even need to be a good coder to do most basic corporate IT work.

Too many people are still stuck fantasizing about quick money in the financial industry, or glamorous law jobs. That shit basically doesn't exist anymore unless you're a top of class Ivy graduate.

Well you'd have to spend as much time on it as a typical full work day, so, standard eight hours.

Bear in mind, it's all tedious work, so you'll need to develop some form of patience. Mturkforums has some good advice for maximizing your daily earnings, some go to the extent of making autohotkeys to rapidly do 'batch hits,' which are ones that take seconds and pay pennies, but add up if you do them at a fast rate.

Similarly leddit has some good mturk boards that post HITs that pay well for little time. Peruse those places and you'll be able to make more than you otherwise would.

Not enough, then again, I haven't upped my time. I will have to soon, however.

Very useful information, thanks. I've heard about the selective processes of many of the big financial law firms, but I'm yet to experience many of them first hand.

Huh, I would have thought your friends would have provided useful connections in those firms, and they're typically the more lenient employers nationwide.

I would be trying to combine it with my current law master's, which is specialised in corporate law. I have the money to support another 3-4 years at Uni, but it may not even provide a benefit - the job market is so saturated...

my friends are in the right places now to give me a hand should i want to go into the meat grinder. at that time, they were at the same place as me. however, even then, there's only so much they can do. job experiences can come by in law firms or chambers, but it's impromptu nature makes it very evident that you are a product of nepotism, which the HR department will dismiss. and here is the nut of the problem. the guardians of the gate are the HR people who are not necessarily trained in law, but trained in spotting bullshit and following a rubric of candidates, as well as quotas etc etc. so while i have friends who have received extended 'schemes' at norton rose and freshfields, none of that matters becasue even the partners and associates must defer to the HR people.

i've done a masters in public international law, which is why i am doing my phd now, but your masters should get you through. more importantly than that though, is your grades. getting a distinction / first on your masters goes without saying if you even want a shot at the big law firms. you also need strong grades from bachelors level + a name uni. its fucked, m8

PS i have friends who have done their llm's in international finance and investment arbitration etc etc, and they seem to haev all been whisked away, so maybe it'll be better for you

Your friends should really help as useful contacts, but I'm going in without any contacts - my Uni mates are all specialised in Tort and Criminal Justice, so I was very much the odd one out in our accommodation

The requirements needed for corporate law can be incredibly vexing at the best of times - if your experience in chambers is downcast as labeling you a product of nepotism, there's little left besides internships, and you're going to be left with these impenetrable HR people to deal with.

What sort of grades did your friends get in their degrees? I imagine they were first class, or at the very least the top band of 2:1. I've got a first class bachelors and master's from Warwick, which I hope will serve me well.

you can attend an emt b course without going to college but the overwhelming majority of emt b courses require some sort of primers in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology. lots of places that offer an emt b course also will offer some of these in prep to take it.

the emt basic course is a semester long, unless you find some sort of accelerated course, which i'm assuming must exist somewhere. it's usually considered the equivalent of 9-12 credit hours. after you earn your basic cert you can move on to a paramedic course. these vary in length but not in load. accelerated courses typically are two semesters long, and are the equivalent of roughly 30 total credit hours. lengthier courses take three semesters.

if you're going to make the commitment to become a paramedic you may as well enroll in college to do it, because on top of your certs you'll have your associates in two years.

i wouldn't recommend doing it if you can't imagine putting in the same effort to save a black gay jew's life as you would a white blue eyed woman. medics tend to burn out over the course of their career but the ones who love people burn out slower or not at all. your primary customers will be people drowning in poverty. also don't join if you're anti-union because we don't want you if that's the case

Look at the numbers, if you can even dig up the real ones since the CCP adulterates the figures every year. And yeah good luck getting into the foreign service with "dancing monkey" on your resume while all your competitors have prestigious internships. Doesnt matter if you have HSK 6 Chinese skills you won't get in the door for the final interview. They teach you the languages you need for your posting once you are selected for the service.

yeah then its straight LPC then TC. Benefit of a TC in most firms is that theyll pay for your LPC course, which is not a small amount of cash, as well as give u a maintenance grant before they put you on the IV and drip u dry.

as for TCs, it depends on what career u envision for urself. but generally, someone from a big firm can move to a smaller one almost at any time, but its really difficult to go from a small backwater firm to the big leagues. so general rule of thumb is always to qualify in the biggest firm u can manage, and then assess ur situation at that point.

there's no point applying for training contracts in some fuck off high street firm if ur dream is to move into the city and go big. not all high street firms will even offer TCs, and if they do, itll be like 1-4 trainees that make it hard to get in its own way.

>>76562557

what this guy said (sorry about travers smith bro, they are cunts, they rejected my GF as well although she ended up at a better firm).
silver and magic will both work, rule of thumb being anything in top 50 will generally do. if ur grades are sick, and u are good with words and have good exp, also try for US firms cuz they will pay a lot more. but they will kill your soul for two years, but yeah.

herbies is literally the worst. unless you're posh as fuck, white british, enjoy a spot of polo from time to time at the country club, its difficult to get in. same with the 'traditional' english ones like ashursts (less so), and slaughter & mays (equally hard if not harder)

yeah jst go for any exp, but the king of exp will be a vac scheme at one of the big leagues, even if not in london.

us firms are intense, as in guaranteed all nighters once a week, average two or three (Depending on seat). you need to balance the number of apps that u do wiht the intensive research.

i know some HR people and they say that they literally look for any reason to reject u, since they have so many apps. if they can spot that what u said can be said for any other firm by replacing name, its thrown out.

i helped write my girlfriend's application, and she went balls deep, like talking about a particular case that one of their partners did in this one deal, which helped change the legal industry in that sector etc, oits all bullshit but it shows that u went IN on the research. otherwise its all moot cuz its 10,000 other student saying the same shit

US firms. lol u wont go home or have a functional life, although people enjoy that (with copious amounts of cocaine)

This one, as I had to drop out of college for not affording it and can't stand being stuck at home with my parents (Job doesn't pay enough to move out, and it's godawful anyway so I dropped from 45 hours a week to like 4 a month).

I'm returning to school now, but I don't think it'll solve anything. I need to be away from my family and just in an environment that promotes getting shit done, be that college, a trade, or picking up odd jobs with other bums or some shit. I need friends and social interaction, but I've fallen off the social market getting screwed out of financial aid, having my parents ruin my credit, and not knowing what to do with myself.

I'm a chemist. I get to work in a science that's pure enough that nobody tries to muddle up with politics (like biology, neuroscience, genetics, etc.), and if I'm ever unemployed I can make high grade drugs.

I have an unconditional offer to start uni in 3 months time, but I'm starting to think maybe I should look for a job and work for a few years instead? I'm currently 21. Not sure what the fuck to do and I don't want to become a NEET

This is the only way to the middle class left for young people.

I am still in middle school (grade 7) and I know I have a few years to go before I even finish high school and make a choice on what to do with my life. I am pretty good at math and have placed high in a couple of math contests in the past. I am wondering if I should just scrap the idea of going to university.

I got certified in welding, then went ahead and got a Cdl and my crane licenses, had interviews lined up before I even finished school, and a job 3 weeks later starting out at $20/hr here in Michigan running cranes and doing iron work, just gonna suck it up for now and get my two years experience and then I'm fucking off somewhere else for better money

Graduating in November in Computer Information Systems. Looking for a couple years. Always found a better candidate. Career service just tells me websites. At this point I'm better off teaching myself Android development or something all while fighting not only wanting to kill myself but chronic fatigue.

Good, I got a job at a CBS tv station and now I live on my own. Hours are night but it's full time with benefits so hey I can't complain.

I don't know what I'm going to do. I have a good internship right now ($23/hour as a tax intern), but I'm worried that all jobs will be automated within 10 years. I'd probably kill myself if that happened. I plan on becoming a CPA.
