1 - Learn French. No shit, it will be a huge help. Yeah, english might be the international language, but in the FL, it's mostly french. East-europeans tend to learn french for the Legion and have a very bad english.
2 - Physical training is good, but Survival is better. Learn to survive innawoods. Very muscular dudes they get and reject, but someone with a mind of steel, they may transform him into a colossus.
3 - Differents regiments in the Legion get differents types of work and training. My roommate had the choice and choose the REI (infantry), which was hard, but the hardest is the 2nd REP (paratroopers). Learn how the Legion works.
4 - Learn french a second time. You'll thank me when you'll finally meet french girls.

I would do it all again, best experience of my life. I left after my five-year contract voided. During the last year, I really missed my country and my personal freedom.

I feel like if the US military had more of a procedure like this, where you can show your worth and work ethic, I wouldn't have been turned away in the first place. Then again, entrance processing deals with massive amounts of people, so I guess it needs to be a little impersonal out of necessity.

Ameribro here who has travelled in Europe. These are some of the cities I've been to and how I'd rate them.
London-Big, crazy, and cosmopolitan. Very similar to a big American city.
Amsterdam-A bit more quaint and laid back. Amazing bicycle infrastructure. Beautiful architecture around its urban core.
Heidelburg-Beautiful small town. Interesting castle. Very cultured city due to its university.
Munich-This city was flattened during WWII, so most of the city feels very new. Still, a nice city, and very clean compared to other major European cities.
Innsbruck-Awesome view of the Alps. Great weather in the summer. Very chill and laid back.
Venice-It's a bad place to go to if you want to experience Europe since it's basically a giant museum. But it's pretty amazing to think that Venetians built a city on a fucking lagoon.
Rome-Crazy busy, great mixture of architecture from throughout Rome's history. Kind of dirty and unkempt, more so than in other touristy European cities.
Florence-The city center has some of the best Renaissance architecture. Not as crazy and busy as Rome.
-Lucern-Beautiful gem in the Alps. Awesome view of the mountains and a very picturesque lake.
-Paris-The city center around the Seine epitomizes Europe for me. The wide boulevards, major landmarks, museums, etc. The people might be shitty, and the banlieus look like a 3rd world country. But the center of Paris is absolutely must-see.

As far as infrastructure goes, my humble vote goes for my little feral dog infested shithole-by-the-sea I call home. It has the largest port in the Black Sea(all man made,there's no natural port unless you count the ancient part of Tomis,) two airports, Danube-Black Sea canal,an inner motorway ring as well as a newer outer highway ring that completely bypasses the city,extensive land reclamation, a deep water supply that's actually a giant river that runs under the city into the sea ea,some old shit in the form of ancient Greek and Roman ruins,an old town that's out of the way and they recently extended the inner city beaches and built new sea defences.
Sad it went to shit,mostly bc of bad mayors.
People here don't really appreciate the work it's gone into it bc it's very commie looking and doesn't have lot of parks,even by commie standards.
Although I'm sure there are other places that have similar or better infrastructure,esp in the Netherlands.

My father originates from Schaffhausen in Switzerland and I visit fairly often as I have family who live there.
