Here's a funny thing - economy failed because the state expected you to have a job, having a job was MANDATORY. So naturally people got drunk as fuck and didn't do anything at their jobs to the point where selling alcohol in the morning was illegal. Whats the boss gonna do fire you?
It was safer too as orgainzed crime doesn't exist in a police state, you didn't see bums going through trash like now.
The downside was that you were poor at the end of the day (my mother is a judge and back then we lived in a shitty three room apartment). Basically anyone educated exploded in wealth after 1989, my family included because suddenly lawyers and engineers got way better wages. For me and my folks capitalism has been good.
But these utter cucks who live worse now than they did during commie times and still hate socialism always makes me laugh.
Again, my family is upper middle class, I'm a programmer with job offers from everywhere in the world, constantly. I'm doing great. But for your average worker socialism was probably better.
