I'm enlisting for my national military academy next year, to hopefully become an officer in infantry, aka Lieutenant according to our ranks.
I'm hyped because I love my country, I respect its military history and I have already gotten my degree before considering any of this so I feel it's my way of giving back to my country - it paid for my studies, it helped me pay rent and groceries through scholarships, and now that I have acquired skills, I want them to serve my nation's defense and interests.
But on the other hand, I'm a bit scared by the prospect of being a peace-time soldier, aka hurry up and wait, aka never do anything significant unless we go to war which is highly unlikely.
Am I wrong? Is being in the infantry during peace time boring as fuck, or are the smaller "peace-keeping" campaigns in Africa something to write home about?

Force Recon has been around since 1957( 30 years older then SOCOM) and did not join it because military leaders thought it was more effective to keep them under MAGTF.
MARSOC was developed later and went essentially unused because when they did a test run they killed too many people.

In the ADF it was just a load of interviews. a YOU session, then a medical interview, an IQ test, a mechanical aptitude test, a interview with a doctor, interview with some careers counsellor, an medical examination, an interview with a psychologist and an interview with an officer.
The whole thing was just talking except for the medical stuff and the IQ test. They also make you fill out all these gay ass forms about your feelings and childhood and "what would you do in X situation" which is completely unrelated to the army. It's such a fucking pansy ass process, I worked out for a whole fucking good year beforehand just to make sure I could smash basic easy, and didn't even get asked to do a single push up, pull up or sit up either.
