Damascus, SANA – Hadiyeh Khalaf Abbas [from Deir Ezzor] was elected as the Speaker of the People’s Assembly uncontested at the first ordinary round of the second legislative term held on Monday.

Abbas is the first woman to have held this position since 1919, when the first national parliament was formed- called the Syrian National Congress.

Again at the Al-Tanf iraq-syria border crossing.
Those who thought they got rekt for good this time by that ISIS VBIED that hit them last week, seem to have been wrong.

About them, they are armed and funded by Jordan/USA and trained in Jordan. They function as a sort of "glorified external Jordanian border guard". Allegedly they sign contracts not to enter engagements against Assad troops, but purely fight ISIS. That makes them sorta neutral, but their affiliation to the "FSA" with those flags and shit makes clear what side they would be on.

"Their" territorial holdings have been grossly inaccurate on pretty much all online maps and largely consisting of desert

It came from this tweet that I found.

>@jamiewrit

>Erdogan warns “Manbij does not belong to Kurds; it is a place where Arabs live;”
“If needed, we will take matters into our hands” #VOAalert

I can only assume that this is because the capture of said town would embolden the Kurds and could send rifts of anti-government sentiment amongst the Kurdish population in Turkey. If Erdogan had his way, The coalition forces would not be aiding the ypg forces... the way I foresee it, turkey will launch artillery fire against the ypg as a means to stave off any advancement into Manbij.
>>
>>76297606
i don't know, they sure as hell are already negotiating, if things aren't already settled. For now they have mutual interests, that's enough
>>
>>76297719
isn't that political suicide? I mean that is not the FSA that they can whitewash to some degree we're talking about here. Stopping the kurds advance against ISIS sure would be a big nono in the west.
>>
>>76297719
Yeah I guess that makes sense, even though ISIS are more vile, they aren't a threat to Turkey, wheres Kurds are.

>>76297606
Not an alliance, more of a working coalition.
If this gets resolved and Assad takes back all of Syria, the Kurds would still expect their own autonomous state, whereas Assad may or may not want to still Arab-wash Kurdish areas, like him and his father have been trying to do for the past half century
>>
>>76297985
Kurds are an existential threat to Turkey, and far more dangerous than ISIS

It's like how Israel at one stage supported Hamas in Gaza, because PLO actually had recognition, and could have made a functioning city-state, whereas Hamas would tear Gaza down, and fight the PLO
>>
>>76297841
>>76298012
Surely after a bloody war and with the Kurds holding the land Assad wouldn't actually be stupid enough to then try and take on the Kurds, prolonging a war with depleted men as it is.

The funeral of Abu Leyla, commander of the "Northern Sun Brigade" and hero of the Kobane battle, took place a few hours ago. He will be laid to rest in the city he defended so valiantly, at the Kobane martyrs' cemetary.
He was killed in the SDF/YPG offensive to liberate his hometown Manbij from ISIS.
>>
>>76298112
nobody gives a shit about that on the international stage though, especially since they feed the "ISIS is a dead cult, hell on earth" narrative since years, and the "kurds advance against terrorists, western allies in syria" one since months.

Nah he wouldn't do that, but even up until last year he still maintained the stance that Northern Syria, and the Kurdish areas are still part of the "Syrian Arab Republic".

Kurds want either autonomy, with Syria to stop calling itself an Arab Republic, or a seperate state, and I don't see Assad agreeing to either of those

Shit will still get complicated after ISIS/rebels are down (also remember, the YPG and other Kurdish groups initially sided with the rebels, and were monumental in their success)

The Kurds want their Rojava state

>>76298347

Why do Kurds deserve autonomy? They are 8% of the population and would have a third of Syrian land. What makes these people so special that they should be allowed to govern so much territory? What about the assyrians and various minority groups in syria, they are not getting anything out of this once the civil war is over?

ISIS are bad, but Kurds destabilizing Turkey is worse, especially for the USA, because Turkey is NATO, and it has US air bases.

Kurds destabilizing Eastern Turkey, would fuck up the region real good.

When it comes to geopolitics, what do you think is worse? A region strife with human-rights abuse, or a destabilized region?
Protip: It's a destabilized region.

Saudi Arabia is the complete opposite of democracy, and everything the West stands for, but they are stable as shit

Yeah, if Assad was going to compromise losing territory, he would have done it ages ago

Kurds aren't going to get shit from him.

Even in his most recent interview, he said that the borders of Syria will not change by him, or by any one group, but it will only happen by a referendum of all the Syrian people.
This basically means, he is telling the Kurds, that they will never get their own state, until the majority of Syrians agree, and that won't happen, because Kurds are a tiny minority
>>
>>76299662
At the very least its clear people joining ISIS easily crossed the Turkish border.

Which could mean
1) Turkish border is unsecure as shit
2) Turkey closed their eyes on ISIS border crossing because it suited their and their friends' geopolitical aim of getting rid of Assad

I personally think new ISIS fighters wont be so easily crossing the border now that Turkey and ISIS are clashing/shelling eachother sometimes. I guess Turkey stopped closing their eyes on ISIS activities when it was clear they werent going to be the ones who would remove Assad in the short term (for example because theyre going into Lebanon and Iraq, Assad is not their main goal)

if turkey decides to send soldiers into syria to kill kurds all bets are off... they will get buttfucked by ISIS, kurds, the SAA and the russians... no way the us would like to join that clusterfuck.

I'll admit, I was one of the shitposters way back (this is like 3 years ago), that was trying to convince /pol/ that Kurds are white, and they are based.
All I had to do was google "female white soldiers", get the image, then post it with the caption "Kurdistan" underneath, and slowly enough, other people started reposting it, and they started believing it.

It got to a point when I would literally post blonde white women, with the caption "Kurdistan", and that's when some people were like "Wait that's not right"

So will there be Kurds vs SAA war after ISIS, FSA and other rebel groups have been dealt with? I get some WW2 feeling from watching those maps where both major sides are getting as much territory as possible before the war is over, and after that we'll see if there will still be a war or if Kurds get their own state inside Syria.

I know Kurdish independence hasn't been supported by any side during the peace negotiations, but honestly who is going to stop them from founding their own state if not Assad? I can't imagine Kurds just laying down arms after they have fought for their territory for years. They have probably far stronger army than ISIS at the moment, and I'm not sure if SAA is ready for 1-2 years of extra war.

the northern part at Dumayr and east of Dumayr definitely has active rebel/salafist groups

as you can see the NSA icon is only near the border, not much further

I kinda wonder if there is a real "FSA" presence in the central part. as you can see the mapmaker marks specifically Jaysh al-Islam in the north and NSA in the south, but no specific faction in central.

Its probably just really difficult to get information about whether ISIS or a potential FSA groups de facto control a part of desert where there is almost nothing.
>>
>>76302029
Raqqa isn't a priority. They want to link their three cantons so the main objective is Manbij now. The "attack on Raqqa" was probably just preparation for that - securing the flanks, confusing ISIS. What should the Kurds do with a city full of Arabs now? Also, Raqqa is huge, five times bigger than Kobane for example. They would lose hundreds of soldiers.

If you are still lucky, put it in another side of the socket.

Now can I get some damn feedback on these maps plox, are they useful or redundant

>>76313846
I kinda doubt USAF/CTF-JOIR will do anything with that (although you never know).
RuAF is a better bet.

>While it has been suggested that the New Syrian Army is a proxy force for Jordan to secure its borders from IS militants, Sarhan vehemently rejects such a label.

>"It is absolutely false and we challenge anyone who claims that we are nothing but a proxy of Jordan to provide compelling proof to back this false claim," he told The New Arab

>"We are the sons of the pure tribes who have made a covenant with God that we would not leave our people suffering and being oppressed and just keep watching," said Sarhan.
