Economies aren't 100% efficient, people are people and people get greedy. Insurance is a racket that is legally protected from actually having to give anyone a service for money invested, unlike a healthcare system which is more efficient by comparison because tax dollars can be tied to service tendered. Americans are dumb and gullible though so the insurance companies will keep winning and increasing prices.
