I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with allowing athletes to continue training and becoming better athletes through college scholarships if they can at least make passing grades (even if courses are dumbed down) but I'm still a little jaded about the academic admittance processes. I'm a white male with above-average test scores and GPA who didn't get accepted to my school of choice over several black girls in my graduating class with worse scores than me. It was humiliating. It's been a while since then but I still hold resentment.

Most school systems allow for AP/IB/CommunityCollege/Honors course to give you higher GPAs. There are different rules everywhere, but AP/IB/CommunityCollege A's are generally worth 6.0/5.0 depending on where you are, and Honors A's are worth 5.0 in places where the 6.0 AP/IB/CC courses are a thing.
Again, it's different everywhere, but I think in Texas it only applies to AP/IB scores. She probably took a lot of easy AP courses in high school (there's like a million easy as shit Social Studies and Science AP courses) which raised her 'weighted' GPA to a 4.5. I assume her actual GPA, which is the GPA as if every class was just on a 4.0 scale, is below a 4.0, otherwise she probably would have just said it because straight A's is a much better achievement than whatever she got.
