Anthropology. It got me into theology and philosophy (though they interweave often of course) as subdisciplines..

I attribute me beginning to take religion seriously many years ago to me reading the book The Grand Titration. It's a cultural synthesis that attempts to explain why the scientific revolution occurred in Europe and not China. It's hardly about religion whatsoever but it a pretty damn good book regardless.

The early church maintained centralization and authority through the passing down of the authority of the apostles. This apostolic succession is what defines Coptics, Catholics, and Orthodoxy. Coptics came from one bishop that disagreed with an early church council and went and kept his group with him and east and west kingdoms that Christianity centered around over time split over (mainly) the practical power of the different seats of the apostles. They both agreed that the seat of the apostle Peter had primacy over the others but the western kingdom thought that the seat of Peter had unique powers in its office over the other ones and the eastern kingdom thought all office were, in a practical sense, equal to one another and that the primacy of Peter's office was one of respect. "First among equals".

The seat of Peter is what the western kingdom (Rome) would call the papacy and the man in the office, the pope.

Protestantism came in reaction to the bad actions of the church at one point and attempted to restore the faith's principles to accuracy. Having no faith in the apostolic line's teachings or traditions they stuck to what they could see as solid: Scripture. And so they focused on scripture and independently researched it so to cause a reformation of the faith away from the church which they disdained. This led to Christianity in the west as you see now. Protestantism led to a massive shift in how foundational elements of Christianity were perceived in the west too. There are thousands of denominations as there are thousands of interpretations of the texts and practice.

Tis also quite a well known, famous for a few miracles. But most well known for an act he did while forced into the Roman Army as he was the son of a general, was a closet Christian and when marching into a city saw a cold homeless beggar. So he took his cloak and cut it in two giving it to the beggar, then had a dream where Jesus was draped in the cloak he gave the beggar and got himself baptized.

But what drew me to him at first when I was going through patron saints was that he was the patron saint of soldiers. Which I thought could be interesting. But looking into him I can see quite a lot of similarities between him and me in upbringing. And I've been looking to be more merciful and charitable. '

Also have had a soft spot for beggars and the homeless for a long time. Which he is also patron saint, all this and that hes quite well known in Italy, Spain & France my favorite countries in the world just all seemed to add up.

pot doesn't kill you quickly there are certainly worse things out there. if your gonna take mood-altering chemicals and have a firm belief in sacraments then perhaps you should look into psilocybe subaeruginosa, which happen to be in season currently.

What value is there in any of it? I suppose there is escapism but escape towards what? It's not practical nor does it help you in any way.

Depression can work like an illness so I would consult someone about doing something to overcome it. You know full well that this sort of thing isn't natural and isn't good whatsoever so there is more worth in finding help to overcome it than simply letting it fester.

I don't know what's going on in your life, man, but I would say to not try to put meeting some expectations first. First, in any situation, is to pursue your own good. We naturally seek our fulfillment and of course we find it in a life dedicated towards love (obviously not romantic or brotherly love but God's love - to will the good of all things without self-interest) but you can't expect to get anywhere or enjoy anything if you aren't handled yourself.

Besides local help, I'd recommend doing something to interest you as you could also be very burnt out as well. A change of pace or a relocation towards what is valuable in life may be better for you, man.

The reason why these pictures "change" is because they aren't pictures of the Earth but a collage of pictures taken by satellites orbiting our planet. From time to time they make different new ones with better resolution pictures, that's why these pictures "change" because they weren't pictures of the whole planet to start with. As a matter of fact there are very few pictures of the complete orb, mainly because 1) There have only been a handful missions that went far away enough with good enough photographic instruments to take pictures of the whole planet and 2) even when they were, Earth would not show all due to the position of the sun (remember the moon phases?).

Orthodoxy is ok sometimes, but the problem is its tied too much to certain nationalities, that just divided the faith up. I wouldn't say they're dying, society is just changing. In the US there was a culture that everyone had to be Christian and everyone had to attend church. I only got Baptized in March 15th of this year. Coincidentally on the 90th birthday of a friend. I'm only 27 but surrounded by old and young Christians now.

You can regain faith at any age, my friend. A lot of the anons here came back to our Lord in their adult years.

Check out of some the links in the OP, but besides that you should try praying to God. It's a wonderful experience. At first it may not work out, but as you get used to it you'll feel a deeper connection with God. Go somewhere where you can be left alone, almost to meditate. If this doesn't work out, try attending a church to pray in a community setting. This works better for some people.

Besides that, read the Bible. I'm a cradle Catholic and I didn't take my faith seriously until I started doing all of these things more sincerely. The Bible will show you steps on how Lord Jesus is actually trying to improve our lives. These are not commands because he doesn't like us or is anti-fun, these are things genuinely made to make our lives more fulfilling. I didn't appreciate them until I started living the real Christian lifestyle myself.

Some would be using scat in their worship of false gods, or sacrificing their children on altars, I bet they even had people having gay sex while praying too. Are you even surprised that the Israelites were told to go and wipe them out? The women, children and cattle too. They were even forbidden from taking any gold or silver from those places, because of how dirty they were.

And just do a Google search now of India's garbage problem, and the people who call the Ganges holy.

The god of the Quran does not bear the same fruits of Yeshua nor the teachings thereof. Nobody can see God. We can only know God. We cannot understand God because his ways are not our ways.

Our Lord and King is Jesus Christ who has been given all authority by his Father. Without being born again, and receiving the holy spirit none shall enter into the Kingdom of God.

We are all sinners and we all need the sacrifice Jesus Christ went through for us. He died so that we didn't have to for our transgressions against God.

We are to be the light of the world and the salt of the world. We are not to condone sin and teach against it. We are to never compromise Gods law and keep it faithfully until the end. For we are make new creatures through Jesus Christ.

God knows our hearts and knows everything about us and knows those willing to receive and listen and obey. He reaches out to all of us who will hear of his Sons sacrifice but not all of us will accept it. That is our free will. People freely choose hell over a free gift given to us by Jesus Christ.

The only people with God in them are those that have received the Holy Spirit. We are neither children, daughters or sons of God without being reborn in Jesus Christ.

You guys seem to be actual followers of Christ. That's wonderful, but how do you manage to reconcile that with the ideology of /pol/, which seems to be really against the egalitarian cross-culture basis of Christianity.

Making disciples of the world doesn't seem to work with anti-multiculturalism.

Good point. I think so long as we remain strong in our faith and our reasons for our faith people will assimilate but sadly we've fallen down on both departments and instead people are bringing false religions and sinful practices with them and not assimilating.

I believe that all peoples of the earth should live amongst their own in peace, and not try and integrate with one another. We see this mistake time and time again from leftists as they push this idea that we should all live together in the same community. Such a community breeds distrust, and overall, divides.

Egalitarian in the sense that all men are created equal and are equal before the law and the eyes of god, not this false idea of a "progressive stack".

Cultural Christianity is rampant in the US. What we're undergoing is a cleansing in our churches, all the fake Christians are simply leaving. We'll be left with a purer church of true followers of Lord Jesus.

I've got a question: When society tried to destroy God as the focal point, they all just started worshiping something else (the state, political ideology etc). These people claim to embrace reason, but are as fanatic as any cult on observing baseless claims like muh diversity or racism against whites.
